Well all I have to say to that is B*ll*cks! (Excuse the pun!
grin.gif
)

Otto is a nightmare at present, he is quite literally driving me up the wall!!

(I know it has nothing to do with his castration, and more his lack of exercise, but I thought the title allowed for a witty comment :grin)

He is escaping at every chance - straight over the fence and buggering off - despite my efforts to contain him.

He refuses to sit still for more than 5 seconds, all I can hear is his bloody nails on the laminate!
He is stealing everything - tonight he has jumped onto his crate, onto the worktop and rooted around trying to find something to nick
mad.gif

Anything he manages to get his paws on he is destroying!

He is acting like he is starving, he even whines whilst we are eating (something he never ever does!)

I cannot wait until next weekend when he is allowed off the lead again!!!

Hmmmm.....I feel your pain!!

Sweep never read that part of the recovery plan either!!
crazy.gif
I gave up after a couple of days when there was clearly no problem and all was healing as he was driving me nuts!!
blush.gif
Just took him on walks where he couldn't swim - figured if it hurt he would stop charging around - but he never did!!
smile.gif

I was thinking that too, however all our walks are in the woods, and he crashes through the undergrowth. I'm terrifed he'll catch his stitches on something!

He is being SO naughty ATM!

The Vet said he would be groggy the day after his op, but not Otto

I did say to my OH tonight, I can see exactly why so many Spaniels are re-homed for being destructive/naughty when there Owners don't realise how much work they need.
It has never been an issue with any Spaniel we've had, so I had never really seen the effects before... and after this, I hope to never see them again!!!
grin.gif

LOL - perhaps he hasn't realised they've gone yet
blush.gif

He obviously hasn't recovered yet from that morning of no food before the op!
smile.gif

Poor confused Otto. I bet he is running round looking for his balls!

Hope he settles soon and (relative) normality resumes

Mine was "done" last month....within 24 hours he was IMPOSSIBLE! I took him to a yard BBQ, let him off, no other dogs around......within seconds he was motorbiking around the lawn. I figured if he was sore he would stop. My vet would have killed me!

However, he has been fine, and his little flappy thingie is shrinking nicely. TBH I don't think he noticed the absence of his man bits.

ETA...he also stole a whole roast joint, half a dozen eggs, and a tub of butter, and chewed my Shires half chaps, a pair of flip flops, and the camcorder case within 36 hours of "the job" being done.
I rather think of that as revenge....

Bear was done about a month ago and I just left him off the lead. I made sure he didn't meet the dogs he plays really boisterously with but he still played with my lab.

By the way - what flappy bits are you talking about? Bear just had a very neat little (inch long max) bit that had been stitched up. Although thinking about it his balls were very small so probably wouldn't have created any flaps!!

Ohhh brings back memories! Our boy was castrated .... The words our vet knew we shuddered with fear at... "lead walk only"...Money didn't bother us, after care didn't bother us but LEAD WALK ONLY was enough to reduce me to tears... 10 days and the very next day he saw a rabbit dash literally between his legs, took off, and removed a lot of skin from my hands... I was terrified the stitches would give way and he would be harmed! But the very worst was an operation for OCD at 10 months old.... 8 weeks of not even trot on lead, no jumping up, no killing me, no 'raging' me, no 'wailing' on me....it was hell!!!!!
(for those who would like to know what 'raging' and 'wailing' involved.... this is a graphic illustration):

usually done at speed!!!

Anyway.... Hope your dog is better soon and back to 'normal'!

Otto had HUGE balls
blush.gif
so his flappy bit are rather large!!!
grin.gif
Plus the Vet said this morning (he had to go in for a check up) that because of all the idiotic things he has been doing, he has made them swell
blush.gif
grin.gif

The problem with Otto is he wouldn't stop if he hurt himself, he would literally keep running even if he broke his leg! And he doesn't just run, he RUNS!! Full pelt, everywhere, over everything!

I also gave Bear some aloe vera to help with the healing process. You can buy it from Holland and Barrett (normally 9.95 but has been on offer at under a fiver at the mo).

We have used the aloe with great success in the horses, plus their coats feel amazing with it.

I know what you mean, Henry has just been walking/swimming for an hour, and has just bounced off a patio door because he is still full of beans (lol he looks a bit shocked to have been stopped in such a way!!!). And he is a calm spaniel!

Can you take him running on the lead rather than walking, it might burn a bit more energy off?

My Parents have been looking after him this weekend (Mwahahaha
grin.gif
) so I am hoping he comes back a bit more exhausted!
grin.gif
They have a much bigger garden than us, plus fences that Otto hasn't worked out how to jump (yet!) so he has been mooching around in there all day.

I think I will leave running him up to my OH, I don't do running! I'm not built for it

OMG....you must have the world's largest dog!
grin.gif

He was a big boy... 86Kg of love and hugs! Soft as anything unless you were a rabbit or fox... Sadly lost aged 5 to bone cancer...number 1 killer of male, large castrated 5 year old wolfhounds!

wooly's dog is MAAAAASSSSIVE!!!!! WO! would NOT have liked to castrate that! prob would have made my OH feel rather insignificant I am guessing!

Beau was exactly like this post castration! He was like FINE if you wont let me on a walk im going to bug you until you do! (unfortuantly for him this consisted still of 10 days in the house of being a pain in the butt! or balls as it were! aha! puns) my dad felt sorry for him up until about day 3 then just decided he was being a pain!
smile.gif

And less active dog??? hmmm me thinks not! collie is still barmy, just less randy!
grin.gif

I let Tilly have a sneaky run off the lead today, only down a very quiet lane, I was so paranoid she'd spot a small furry and do a runner though, ended up putting her back on lead after five mins
crazy.gif

It's hard work keeping her calm - I've also got the added pressure of Ki hassling me, wondering why he's not allowed to run and play with his buddy
smirk.gif
.

Five day check this afternoon, all looks ok but there is a tiny bit of swelling. Vets assured us this is probably just a reaction to the internal stitches dissolving.

Glad Otto is doing so well,,, the flaps are weird aren't they
grin.gif
. They will shrink away with time. Ki still has small flaps (his "flats"
wink.gif
)but he was castrated late so I assume that is why.

He is much better today, he had a weekend away at my Parent's as I had to go to a wedding, and as he doesn't settle that well there it tires him out
grin.gif

He had a run on Sunday, but only because he jumped out the garden, but was being so well behaved we let him have a bit of a run in the field
