Castration - Re-Assurance!!

OK - before I do it I need some re-assurance....

I am going to book Finny in to be Castrated within the next few weeks... especially now we have a little girl in the house (Fell Terrier) ..

He will be OK won't he?
He won't change will he?

He has had 2 x aneasthics before and was fine...
He's now nearly 14 months old.. it's not too early is it?

He is NO problem at all when it comes to bitches, I just don't want 1) any accidents to happen with new pup, 2) Him to start running off after ladies 3) Him to go sex mad!! LOL!!

The only difference in one dog we had done was that he quit cocking his leg and marking, he squatted like a lady. Temp wise if anything he should show less agression (not saying Finn even does now) to other males.
 
Don't worry, he'll be grand. He's a big strong boy and will fly through it. As Severnmiles said the real change would be less aggression to other males and no chasing ladies

Don't you fret one bit!!!! Only thing that will suffer is your wallet as he is a big boy! We paid £220 for Haz but worth every penny. The only way Hazzie changed was that he wasn't driven to seek out bitches in season. This was a good thing as he drove himself mad and was dropping 5kg a week!!!! Haz wasn't over sexed at all and never 'did things' to anything or any object but when our neighbourhood insisted in letting bitches in season roam it was a little too much for a boy.
Haz was still as exercise crazy, desperate to hunt and playful and masculine and characterful as he always was ....a lot more content though and went from a hat rack to a sturdy strong boy.
Best of luck he will be fine and just the same glorious pup as before!
Oh forgot to say...Haz still cocked his leg but was just as versatile at the squat if in the middle of a field and was never aggressive to begin with but was less distracted. Haz was on his 9th anaesthetic when we discovered the cancer so don't you fret. They are out for such a very short while.

He's not an agressive boy in anyway so I'm not worried about that.

14 months is probably a good time to do it anyway as he has had a proper chance to grow.

Boris (13 months old now) Had his done nearly 2 months ago... hasn't changed him by the slightest!! still mad as hatter and runs like there's no tomorrow... He's thinner than before his castration! He got more energy and i haven't! But Noticable thing is he stopped marking, marking every time a dog marks... , took more interest in chasing his ball than after lady dogs or Dogs...

Finny will be fine i am sure..

Anyway, he's drop dead gorgeous....

Don't know if it's different for the females, but you always hear stories--and encounter scientific proof--that spaying/neutering is not good for dogs as far as them putting on weight. But it's not something we've ever had an issue with. Just keep on doing what you're doing and Finny will be more than fine.

Stella was a right little fatty as a pup, but after her her spay became leaner and more muscular.

[/ QUOTE ]As OH and I were saying - TBH a dog can only eat what you give it - so weight gain IMO is owners fault opposed to dog fault - my dogs are fed on looks.. not weighing the food... if they look too lean they get more if they look chunky they get less.. like wise if they are getting more exercise the get more food, less they get less... it's all relative!!
