Castration- too late in the year?

I am well and truely fet up of being nipped now- and I think so are the other horses in Howie's field. He has become too big for his boots and has had many a retaliation from the others. Im worried about his safety and although I think he truely would make a fantastic asset to a stud his balls need to be removed. Now I know gelding at thsi time of year is not reccomended- but are the risks severe? Im worried hes at more risk of being kicked badly if he keeps acting the way he is.

Cattle are castrated with little hassle year round, Ovbiously you have the added issue of keeping it clean.

Speak to your vet, I cant se eit being a problem

Our new fellow was gelded two weeks ago. The only added issue is the flies but he's been fine.

Had a colt done a week ago with no problems

The midget was done this time last year and he was fine, just watch out for the flies for the first couple of days while the wound is healing, they'll be after the blood.

The vets have said the flies pose the worst risk of infection- and that he would need to be stabled for a longer period because of this - but walked 3 times a day to ensure thereis limited swelling. I dont know if I can do the midday walk as im working

my vet advised me against getting my little fella done, he said he had decided not to do anymore until autumn, this was about three weeks ago, he said he would do it, but to be very aware of the chance of infection (and extra vet visits), i did choose against it as i thought it would be bad enough getting his nads off without an infection on top, although reading the posts above perhaps its not as bad as i thought and my vet was being over precausis (sp?)

Hmmm im not sure- im stuck between a rock and a hard place- if i dont get it done he may well get hurt badly- if I do he may well get an infaction Argggg! I dont know what the best option is!!
