Ok i have two options...
Little boy (currently 22 months and about 15.2hh) has started to take an interest in the ladies so i am going to have him gelded.

Option a
Have him gelded at home usual procedure ( although usually lives out so will have to come in to have it done
Option b
Royal Veterinary College are looking for horses to castrate for their students to have their final exams on. £100 to include castration and 3 days livery.

Pros & Cons
At home – hasn’t got to leave home, i can care for him, Can get my vet (from the Vet College to do it – who i trust.
Vet College – they will be able to keep an eye on it for 24 hours after the operation – will be away from home so will get him to grow up a bit

What do you think?

I like the sound of option 2 - surrounded by vets to keep an eye on your precious boy can never be a bad thing! Yes, they are students, but fully supervised at all times. And like you said, a trip away ffrom home can only add to his education, even if it is to get his bits chpped off!

Castration breeds many complication and god willing he will have none of them, I'm always warned about them and still never have had an issue, however i'd take option two anyday as I only use RVC and also know three of their final students and still would trust them with my babies. RVC castrated my 5month old in december and I can't say a bad word against them. xXx Good luck love
