New kitten got 4 weeks free petplan insurance when she got her vet health check. That runs out today and I'm undecided on renewing. None of the others are insured. Do you insure your cats?

Yes, we do but we got cat age 2 having already been in a serious RTA and missing a tail so we suspect he will probably break in the future. Plus his insurance is super cheap compared to everyone else (dogs/horses)

Yes although the first time he tried to die it hadn't kicked in yet, very helpful the second time as luckily he chose a different method 🤣

Yes - Petplan - although it's not cheap.

Having said that, a trip to a specialist with one about 10 years ago (a problem our vets couldn't get to the bottom of) was £1000 to have her in for the day and run tests, so that was claimed for.

I'm surprised so many do!

I'm normally with you, midlifecrisis, but one of my existing cats had a run in with a car very early on and lost his tail as a result.... otherwise uninjured so I couldn't justify pts and so he is now my most expensive cat to date.

yes. agria. i have been really impressed. all three of mine are insured as is the horse with them. they all have life time policies - one of the boys broke three metatarsal bones in his foot less than ten days after the policy started. they paid without any queries. margo is currently having treatment for a possible lymphoma again no problem. my only regret is that i didn't do them for £12,000 vet care is very expensive

I have all my pets with Agria. They have always been good about paying out and easy to get hold of.

I didn't until my last 2 cats and now I have the Pet Plan life time cover. To be fair to pet plan they have been great at paying out, and both cats made full use of their policies!! But it is expensive and, now my 1 remaining cat is coming up to 15 I am starting to question it. It goes up roughly £3 per month per year.

I do these days, yes, as fees have gone up so much with the vet. Annie first started on arthritis medication about 7 years ago, possibly more. Three years ago she moved onto the more expensive Solensia injections, then two years ago the even more expensive Onsior. She was also on Amodip for a good three years (which kept the CKD under control amazingly), so I definitely got more out than I paid in for a good three years. I was surprised they didn't black list me when I got the new cats at the end of May! Paying for all three is a little eye watering, though, even with 10 % multi-cat and 20% CP volunteer discounts.

Thought I'd come back to this, what with having recent experience of vet visits (and they'll be ongoing for a couple of months).

My little man's vet bill so far comes to £5,300 and the surgeries were straightforward with no complications. I expect this to get closer to £6,000, by the time he's had the follow up and removal of stitches and wire from his jaw. He also needs more X-rays to check it's healed ok. Trying not to think about the premium next year, but he's insured for £4000 per policy year. Mine is a cautionary tale that the costs quickly spiral! I can swallow it (although I did say to the surgeon I'd prefer spending it on a holiday to the Bahamas if I'm honest...), but if you can't swallow that cost, insure.

Still, at least I can say I've had my money's worth out of this year's premium!

Yes.

I had a cat hit by a car about 10 years ago.

The cost then for his inpatient stay and spinal surgery was about £5000.

He is still ticking along now at about 13 years old.

The insurance saved his life. As selfish as it may sound, I would not be able to justify £5000 on a cat.

We do yes, I have multi pet insurance with Admiral and its really not at all expensive. I've not got him on a top of the range policy but i like the security of knowing he is insured as I'd feel awful having to choose pts because I couldn't afford to treat something fixable.

No but I regretted it when this year had £2000 worth of tests, examinations and medication before being pts.

If it had been a catastrophic event then my plan was to pts if £5000 of surgery needed. It wasn’t like that it was an illness that wasn’t easy to diagnose and it definitely wasn’t a pts situation at first and it was a series of bills that added up. It was difficult to not have the next possible test. I stopped when the only option was to referral to a specialist centre but at this point the neurological symptoms were only likely to have one outcome even if a diagnosis was given.

It broke my heart as only 8 and no explanation 💔

I'm just about to insure that not at all feral cat I adopted. His 4 weeks freebie with pet plan is running out.

Its easy enough to say PTS but little Missy cat ran up a huge bill for an abscess after she took on a much bigger cat. Whilst I'm pleased she won her tussle she managed to run up £3k of bills because the flipping abscess was in her neck and required 2 surgeries with GA to sort it out. The photo of her in the collar of shame popped up on my FB feed last week and made me cry harder than any of the pretty pictures because the furious glare was just so her. I had 10 years of never using her insurance and then in the last 3 years of life got all my premiums back and then some.

Benny cat is not at all impressed by Outside Stuff and just wants to lie on heated floors all day so may be much cheaper when it comes to post fight vet bills. Not at all feral!!

I do yes, A friends cat was hit by a car when a loose dog chased it across the road. The bill really mounted up. Ours is insured with Admiral. I have a multi pet policy and its all really flexible.

The bengal has been insured since a kitten. We have just insured the wandering kitten and her sister as well - works out cheaper than a couple of bottles of wine a month (decent-ish wine) and we have peace of mind. I’ve also got the kittens on a monthly health plan with the vets - easier to budget doing it this way.
