Sorry I know it's not NL as such but hey ho :-)

Does anyone use litter tray liners, or can anyone suggest an alternative. Would just be handy to lift the whole thing out in one go, if that makes sense?!?

they are really annoying, I wouldn't bother with them - cats pull them about so it's hard to just lift out anyway!

you can get self-cleaning litter trays with lids, just roll them over and only the mess empties, also saves on litter

I tried them once - never again! Made more mess than without! I just use largish swing bin liners and tip the whole lot into one of those when I clean the litter trays out

I did have a litter tray before that had the bottom solid part, and then a tray with slots in, so you could just lift the tray out to take the poos out :)

I had enough of those, my cat used to rip them up. I changed to using a newspaper on the bottom and then put the whole thing (tray) in a bin liner and tip it all out in there, easy and no mess. My cats are grown up and go out now thank god!

I tried them once and gave up pretty quick, my cats just ripped them (although they're Bengals and quite frantic in their litter scratching!). I just muck them out regularly all week then at the weekend tip the whole lot the bin, clean the tray out and replace litter. I think it very much depends on your litter as to how clean you can keep it during the week though!

What's annoying is mine go out every day (while we're around to keep an eye on them) but both REFUSE to go to the toilet outside (which is a nice garden, lots of places to do it) - they'll literally scratch the door down to get back in to go. Weirdo's.

Sophisicat Gold Ultra Clumping litter - I have 3 indoor cats one with IBS so uses the tray a lot... it is brilliant... I have only had to empty the whole tray once in 3 months! you just scoop out the hard lumps - no need for a liner or scrubbing of trays!

NB I have 3 cats and 3 trays - 1 box of litter lasts 10 days ish - £4.50 a box

I'm with Snorkey on this one.About half of the family cats still use the litter trays, and my mum puts down newspaper under the litter and tips it into a plastic bag once or twice a week and it just plonks into the bag quite easily and stops the litter sticking to the tray.Saves loads of time cleaning the trays, and without a lot of the mess:D

Definitely wouldn't use the liners - pretty useless in my experience. I have recently started using the same wood pellets I use for the horses. I put a couple of handfuls into the litter tray and sprinkle some water on (tried it dry but they wouldn't use it). Mine is really for overnight requirements and if I shut any of them in the house when I go out. I take the poo out daily and change the whole lot when needed. Never smells and just goes on the muck heap. I used to hate it when the bin bag broke with the cat litter as it went everywhere.

Another vote for newspapers under the litter. we put in a load of litter which is picked of poo as soon as iwe notice there is any. We empty out the entire lot once it looks too wet.

Almost no smell and the tray is cleaned at least twice a week.

I do use liners, then news papers, then litter, poo's are taken out daily and litter shaken up, I completely empty tray, disinfect etc every ten days.

I use Catsan and have it about 3 inches deep :D
