Every night my cat sleeps at end of my bed. Same thing this evening, I'd turned the light off and he started to groom himself. Suddenly he screamed and flew of the bed (sounded like him and another cat fighting), and he's now limping. Hid himself under the bed - but I'm worried for him.
Not much I can do at 1am but is there anything i can do to make him more comfy until morning?
Weird place to post this i know but only place i have where there's guaranteed animal lovers (even if they're normally a bit bigger)

If he feels safe under the bed I'd put water and litter box as close as possible to him so he doesn't have to move far. If there is somewhere he would be more comfortable, fish him out very gently and do the same? Get him to the vet first thing.

You could look up emergency 24h vets in your area which is the ideal solution, but I know sometimes they're just not an option for people.

Sending best wishes to your boy.

Unfortunately I would need my parents up to help us take them into the nearest big town for 24 hours :(

Thanks so much for the advice, he seems much comfier. I brought the litter box in from downstairs and moved his water closer - managed to coax him out with the promise of Dreamies and onto a blanket at the end of the bed.

Think he'll be OK and will update with what's actually going on after being at the vets :)

Do update! Poor boy, hope its something silly like a random muscle spasm.

If hes sleeping on the bed now you can find something that means he doesn't have to jump from bed to floor in the middle of the night if he needs a pee. That would be good if he's pulled a tendon or something.

Oh crikey that sounds really distressing to both of you, I think I'd be beside myself if I heard that noise. Good shout putting his tray and water under the bed. Please do let us know how you get on at the vets ??????

Just seen you've got him back up on the bed, hopefully he will have a nice little sleep and not move about too much.

My cat has nightmares where she’ll suddenly wake up hissing or meowing. Sometimes she jumps sideways but its a large bed and she hasnt yet fallen off.
Your boy probably had similar cat nightmares but in the fall sprained his foot. It should heal/be weight-bearing within 24hrs, they generally heal quickly from sprains.
My wildish boy cat that loves hunting in the forest climbing trees has mornings limping-in from another adventurous night - he generally chills out resting in the day to recover and is weight-bearing by evening for another hunt fest!
Cats are way more resilient than dogs when it comes to sprains. Im always amazed how they heal quickly.
Try not to worry, put food/water/litter box nearby him and he’ll have access to all he needs without having to move far.

He could have been stung....I have been finding sleepy queen wasps coming out of hibernation in my bedroom recently......even found one under the duvet....I am now searching very carefully before going to bed each night!

Hey everyone, sorry for no news - A Levels, Uni accoms, and such got in the way!

So, he came and cuddled up by my head in the very early morning, so must have been in some pain or at least very upset (unfortunately meant i got 0 sleep, didn't want to roll over and put pressure on a sprain)! He's followed me around the house all day too - poor thing is in a bit of shock I think.

We called the vet this morning and she asked us to bring him in. Essentially, she thinks it's a mild sprain given that he was walking much better today - just having a little bit of an issue jumping (for context - we have dogs so the cats' wet food is on a counter that they jump on to eat, and bless him his leg gave and he missed) :(

Still, he's definitely on the mend and even ventured outside when I went and did the horses - so luckily we've got away with a mild sprain and a bit of shock :)

Thanks all for your help, and wanting updates - it meant a lot when i was panicking at 2am this morning, haha!

A couple of you mentioned nightmares (and that he probably sprained himself in the fall) - is there any way I can stop this or is it a case of encouraging him not to sleep half hanging off the bed?

Give him a nice cup of cocoa before bed? It always helps with my bad dreams.

Sadly, cats are idiots and there seems to be little we can do about it. They can fall from twenty-six storeys up and walk away, and then dislocate a toe using a scratching post.

If you want to try something, perhaps try a Feliway spray, or a Feliway Optimum diffuser , said to enhance serenity in cats. Or have a look at Calming cats with Acupressure or something similar. Those are the things I could think of.

Thanks for the update, best of luck with the other things you were busy with today, and hope the cat's sprain heals quickly.

Thank you for this I will definitely try the acupressure for our cats.
