My 11yo Bichon Freise has a cataract in her left eye, the vet says she's not in any pain and she hasn't changed at all behaviour wise, so the choice is ours wether to operate or not. Please can I hear your experiences.

It would never occur to me to have a canine cataract operated on to be honest, and particularly not at that age - I would leave well alone if I were you :)

One of my springers (Clyde) had cataracts in both eyes when he came to live with me at eight years old. I always used to mention it to my vet over the years as they did get more 'blue' over time. Response from vet, "does he bump into things"? My reply, nope not at at. We'll leave well enough alone then, came the reply.

He was put to sleep at nearly fifteen and he still wasn't bumping into things so could obviously see perfectly fine. To be honest, all the oldies eyes went cloudy over time but Clyde's were very noticeable from a fairly young age.
