Yesterday I had one of my geldings looked at by my vet as he had a weepy eye that did not seem to be healing and I also had my mare medicated for her Navicular (In fact it is a new drug that I am hoping will help) while my vet and I were talking he noticed that she had a large Cataracts in her left eye.
Fourteen years ago I bought an Arab gelding that passed a 5* vetting but the comment from the vet doing it ,was that he was blind in one eye. As I did not want him to show or jump (I do Endurance) I was told that it would not affect him. I did get him at a reduced purchase price.
His sight failure was do to an injury that was not treated. The only thing that happened was that he has acute hearing he hears things way before we do. He has a small cataract that has never grown any bigger.
With my mare, the vet was here one month ago and did not notice anything. He says it is a mature Cataract. The mare is not worried at all about it and can still go through small gaps, although after yesterday I did watch her and when I gave her her feed she did turn her head so she could see with the good eye.
Does anyone have an experience with a horse that suddenly gets a Cataract. By the way her other eye is not affected at all.
