Can they be treated? What are people's experiences? I think the new horse has one. I have no idea how I didn't spot it before, but farrier pointed it out today as it was the first time he'd seen her so was having a nosey all over.

They can be treated in much the same way as human cataracts are but a) you'd have to find a veterinary hospital that would do it and b) you'd probably have to re-mortgage your house to fund it. Not sure if your insurance would cover it. The thing to wonder though is, is it a cataract? Farriers, bless 'em, will have seen all sorts of things in and on horses but would be the first to tell you that they aren't vets. A cloudy cornea would be easier to spot than a cataract. And a cloudy cornea isn't good news. Cloudy = damaged and corneas don't heal well because they (obviously) have no blood supply. Did you have the horse vetted? Because if it was mine I'd have the vet out pronto. You can't take any chances with eyes, and I say that, sadly, from personal experience.

Didn't have her vetted as she was fairly cheap and as far as I could see she was sound, back was fine and clean limbed. Obviously didn't spot the eye! Planning to get the vet out soon though.
