Anyone used this sort of policy and any recommendations for who to use?
Our insurance is due for renewal in January but having had a significant issue this year, resulting in exclusions on both front legs.. and a 30% price increase, we’re considering changing ?

Edited to add - anyone used Agria?

I had the Shearwater one which they don't offer in the same format but they paid for an eye injury as the result of banging his head.

Am now with SEIB on their veteran cover for a horse that isn't a veteran. It's the same sort of thing under a different name. You have to phone to get a quote though.

I’ve just taken out the World Horse Welfare one today - they also cover up to 50% livery and transport fees if needed. It’s also administered via SEIB who I found to be very good in the past.
Looked at Harry Hall as there is a few recommendations for them on this forum but their underwriter is in Guernsey so they’re outside of UK FCA/FOS jurisdiction. Probably not a problem at all but I don’t tend to shop much so the HH discount doesn’t do much for me and figured the WHW is also supporting a good cause so went with that one.
Clearly can’t comment on claiming though!

I briefly had catastrophe cover with KBIS.
Refused to pay out after horse died from suspected tetanus (he was vaccinated) as a post mortem was not carried out.
(I have not had good dealings with KBIS, as this was the second time they refused to pay out for something. Maybe I am just unlucky)

I also have WHW, when I compared it to HH it seemed far more inclusive and covered things such as the livery and transport fees that the HH didn't. It's also not limited for the number of horses covered either. I have claimed on it and they paid out ok.

I’ve claimed on HH this summer.

Coblet was kicked in the field, needed staples… then X-rays as fracture was suspected and confirmed. I think we had three further visits with xrays.

The bill was over the £1500 limit, but they paid the full £1500 they were liable for.

Do you have a link to the WHW cover details by any chance?

KBIS have always paid out without an issue, but I have never claimed for euthanasia. My insurance does state I need a PM paid for by myself otherwise they will not pay out. I have full cover but I would imagine Catastrophe cover would have the same clause

KBIS “Catastrophe” policy does not cover for euthanasia nor illness such as tetanus. It is limited only to injuries involving an open wound, colic or a joint/ tendon septic flush.

And it's a while since I looked closely at the terms but I think colic is if surgery is needed not the treatment and the tendon/joint flush as a result of an injury.

I think mine covers for euthanasia but only as a result of an external injury.

I had 'cover for death' as an extra. There was also an open wound, which would have required a couple of staples, if horse hadn't then contracted tetanus. I know they don't cover for things like broken legs etc.
It may well be that there is a clause about the PM.
Just commenting on my experience with KBIS.
I no longer insure any of my horses, other then PL, as I've now had two bad experiences. As I said, maybe I'm just unlucky.
