Catch 22 - mudfever

I was using neem oil with no issue then one day after using it my horse came in with what looked like burns all over his legs where the neem oil had been, lots of scabs and very sore legs, same thing happened when I tried pig oil. As he 100% refuses to stable I am stuck trying to treat his mud fever while living out. Currently trying diluted hibiscrub, dry, sudocrem for a few days then stop the sudocrem and apply athletes foot powder in its place, this was suggested by a vet. Also bought Nizoral but bit unsure on trying it after reading people have had issues with it x

Hi - I've been using Nizoral for almost a decade now on many different horses - I worked in the racing industry for many years so had a lot of opportunities to use it and the two posts on this thread are the first that have had a bad reaction. I would wonder if it was in fact a reaction to the different products that had recently been used.

Wash all stuff off with a normal detergent like Fairy. The wash with the Nizoral. Dilute it before applying to the skin.

Thank you, going to try this tomorrow, do I need to wash it off? add anything to the legs after to protect?
