I'll try and keep this short and sweet (because thats the type of day it was!)
I took my 2yr old, out of my ex event mare and Masterpiece, and my first foal. He behaved very very well, and i was so impressed with him, loaded nicely, travelled well, and generally took it all in his stride
He was well behaved for the vet, a bit fidgety but nothing terrible, he walked well and after he got over his stage fright, trotted up well (albeit from trying to miss a few of the stones). We then had a bit of a wait, so we mooched round the yard, trying to let him take things in.
Then in to the arena, again a bit scary for both him and myself, he was a bit more lit up, but nothing terrible. I thought he walked well, really encouraged him to stretch and walk out properly, and although its difficult to see when you are leading i felt it was good. I was really pleased with his trot work, its something that i'm really starting to like about him, and i felt he trotted well, i must have run my rather short fat legs off to keep up with him, so for anyone who was watching apologies, it cant have been pretty!!
(I will agree with all other people, white....although it looks pretty is not nice to wear when being dragged round by young horses, being slobbered on and especially when you are a complete podge like me! My Dad said i should have got an extra mark for my elevated chest!!
)
Then off to the loose school, let him go and he had a good bomb round, canter was looking much better than at home recently where its looked a bit stilted, but he had a great time and was nice to see him move so well. Cant wait to see the pics!!
So anyway, down to the nitty gritty....
First Premium - 8.12!
Vet Mark 1 = 8 - Likely to mature well
Vet Mark 2 = 9
Conformation 1 = 8.25 - Nice overall outline & room for improvement in future
Conformation 2 = 8.5 Good limbs and feet
Paces = 7.75 Active
Athleticism = 7.75 Needs to mature and strengthen
Type & Temperament = 8 Nice enough type, will mature and strengthen
The verbal comments, were lovely horse, needs to mature and strengthen, but that will come with time.
I was immensley proud of him, and his achievements, there is a huge sense of satisfaction in breeding your own and them doing well, it makes all the hard work seem worthwhile
It was a superb day, which i thoroughly enjoyed, even if i did feel sick prior to getting him out of the lorry!!
It was well organised, freindly esp lots of chatty people, and would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice day out with their young horse!
Big thanks to Jan and everyone who was helping out on the day, you deserve a big glass of vino for your efforts, and also the lovely scottish lady doing the scores was kind enough to copy my sheet as we wanted to get him home
