Catlips?

It does sound amazing and the lady sounds like a real character. I wonder where she gets all the second hand stuff from then, does she buy it from e-bay and sell it on or do people go in to sell her stuff too? Just curious really.

You take your stuff there and she give syou credit or you exchange for new/2nd hand stuff.

Catlips is heaven on earth! I kitted out myself and my horse and anything that wasnt needed or was outgrown, went back in exchange for something else. Now I'm talking about 20 odd years ago so Catlips has obviously survived the snobbery of the OP and her likes. Long may Shiela creak up and down the stairs!! When I was a CL client I kept my boy at Bury Farm, Edgeware-anyone else been there?

I had my first ever share at Bury Farm-nice hacking. :) Liz from there (with Ryan, bit 17hh+ WB) is at my yard now. I was put off my the 2 women who ran my section of the yard-pair of beady eyed ladies who obviously reported everything back to the owner of the horse!

I often visit Bury to stock up on Global Herbs as Patchetts no longer sell it. Feed is cheaper there than most tack shops and I love Clive: he's very knowledgeable.

This makes me really quite sad...

OP, when I was your age I had worked to pay for my two horses, and was working before and after school and at weekends to afford to keep them. One of my horses needed a new saddle, and I saved up for eight months to get together the £700 I needed for a second hand saddle that fitted him perfectly. Every time I sit in that saddle I feel proud of what I managed to achieve by myself, with no help from my parents (who couldn't afford it at all at the time). Since I was thirteen my parents have not paid a penny towards my horses - I have bought them all and all their kit and worked to keep them, and yes that means that I have to go without quite a lot, but they're worth it. I would rather spend £200 on a rug for my horses than on a pair of jeans for me.

It makes me so sad, and I must admit, a little angry, to hear people saying they're "snobby" about second hand. This time last year I was literally living off what I had left in the house, which turned out to be lentils, cous cous, hoi sin sauce and frozen baguettes, but I am proud to be able to say that my horses have not once suffered as a result of me having no money - it goes on them first. Even when I was working for someone who ended up not paying me a penny (and owes me £6000 now) my horses always had the farrier on time, they got fed the best quality food, and had the vet out when needed.

Please think a little before posting things like this. It hurts to see people who don't appreciate what they've got, and the fact that they're lucky enough to not have to lie awake at night worrying about how they're going to pay for their horses next set of shoes. I'm fine now, I wouldn't say I'm loaded, but I'm fine, and I still buy second hand. Why on earth would I pay £200 for a Rambo rug when I can get one out of the bargain bin at my local saddlers for £30?!

Would anyone be interested in doing a HHO catlips meet-up? It sounds fab :D

If that was a serious suggestion and depending on the dates, then yes, absolutely! I'd be a bit scared of going on my own :o.

There's quite a high chance I'll have to kit my pony in some stuff when she comes back off loan as my *helpful* father decided to take the whole contents of my tackroom to Spain when I was at college. Despite me asking and telling him clearly not to take any of it and leave it with the friend I'd organised it to be left with :(.

This Catlips sounds like it's well worth the journey! :D.

What a great find - thanks all, I'm definately going. Never had much second hand stuff before ebay - now most of my stuff is pre-owned. I like that I can afford better quality stuff if its second hand.

Me too. I'd never be able to afford some of the stuff I've bought second-hand, new. Absolutely no way. The JW rug being one example!

As well as Jeffries bridles etc etc. I could not afford £100 or so pounds for a bridle so second-hand gives me the chance to have some good quality stuff :D.

Fab! See if we can rope Cavblacks in as well :D.

I know. Let's just say he's not my favourite person and was even less so after that little trick .

Ooh, bring it on! I'm on holiday from the middle of next week and there's a really nice looking canal or river-side restaurant really close by, or Scottsbridge Mill (really lovely) if we want to be a little more upmarket (main meals at about £20). I'll bring the stickers an the board markers so we can put our names on!

Lets get this ball rolling :D

Seriously what is wrong with you!!!!! I have no problem that you don't wear/use second hand stuff (at the moment I don't either - purely because I am sooooooooooooooooooo fortunate that my parents are prepared to buy new stuff, though I should add my parents would never buy me new really expensive branded jobs).

Although I don't on the whole have 2nd hand stuff (apart from the odd stuff friends have given me over the years) I would never dream of demonstrating the same attitude you have! It is actually VILE.

I just hope that one day - when you actually realise the value of money - you will look back on these and understand what a brat you are.

Ok now i know your a total muppet, have you noticed anyone alse at your level wearing a red show jacket? no? that'd be because there's a reason you cant wear them, read your rule book love!!

LAUGHING!!!!!!! :D

There are some truly funny people on this forum, even if others do moan and complain that some are mean and cruel. Just get a thicker skin!! And to be honest, the OP really doesn't give a to*s what anybody says or thinks to or about her - she likes you all squabbling amongst yourselves over her spoilt brat ass!

I have also been using Catlips for more years than I care to admit to, it really has to be seen to be believed. I also believe Shelia celebrated her 80th birthday last year!!

We were going to the party last year until OH broke his back the day before

Top tips for visiting- It is closed all day Sunday and Friday opens 3-6pm. Saturdays are best avoided unless you arrive before 10am. Wednesday is when she gets deliveries so tends to be busy with reps etc.
If you are planning a group visit, do let her know so she can grab a couple of helpers so she isnt doing it on her own and take cash as she doesnt take cards..

Good point, forgot to say that: cheques are also fine.

Ps. I also agree about red jackets, I so wanted one as a kid but now have given up my dream as I have seen virtual beginners in them and they aren't special anymore (well, in a different way). :(

Er, its in the rule book? Sorry, should we not pull her up on the rules because she's a 14 year old? Tell you what, she can still have 1st place trophy even if she doesnt actually jump any jumps, just because we should all be nice to her.....!!!!!?!?!?!!
