Cats Fowling

I think the 'male friends pee'ing on the border' is a misnomer.... Never worked for us anyway :D Have you got a friend with a vocal dog? Might be worth it? Or a dominant tom cat? x
 
Cats can be litter trained. Hate cat owners in built up areas who take no responsibility for where their cat poos or what damage they cause. Don't get why you buy an animal and then shut it out for the majority of the time!

My parents tried everything to stop cats pooing in their garden, nothing worked as they were the only house on the street without cats or dogs.
 
mmmm cats fowling doesn't bother me at all. TBH I am more concerned about human poo. We go to the toilet we flush the chain and most of us couldn't care less where it ends up, so long as it doesn't end up in our back garden!
How many people visit the coast? How many of us realise where most of that poo ends up?
Doesn't matter really as we are on holiday and don't live there.
Raw sewerage is pumped out to sea. Now it may never end up on the beach or coastline unless there is damage to the pipes, however the sewerage is still going somewhere.
Flora and fauna somewhere along the line is being affected by it. Doesn't matter though because most of the time we don't see the sewerage do we?
As for dogs then yes dog owners should pick up poo.
Cats have a mind of their own and they wander. Would folks like someone knocking on their door to ask if they can have a dig in their garden to recover the shite their cat may have done in there?
I suggest people that don't like cats move somewhere where there are few humans and less chance they will encounter a cat ******** in their garden.
Personally I can't stand people most of the time but I have to grit my teeth and get on with it.
Shame more people were not like animals tbh, would make the world a much nicer place ;)

Actually I'd rather the neighbours came round and cleaned it up themselves than leaving it to me!

But better than that I'd prefer if they litter trained their cat - that is the responsible thing to do.
 
My current house we don't have a problem with cat poo, the reason is that next door have a big tom cat (a rescued ferral neutered late) and our garden is his territory. However he doesn't poo all over the place (he's litter trained) and he doesn't get shut out for hours on end. He goes out a few times a day under supervision, they supervise him mainly to make sure he doesn't make his way onto the main road and get run over but it has the added advantage of meaning he doesn't poo everywhere.

My friends who have cats also have them litter trained. One has pedigrees and they only go out under supervision, another has a rescued ferral and that has a cat flap to come and go as it pleases and a litter tray that is always accessible to it.

If you live in an urban or suburban environment it is only fair to your neighbours to litter train your cat so that their kids aren't playing in cat poo.

As I said, my cats are litter trained and have access to and from the house via a cat flap.

Most cats prefer to go out to toilet - and will do that over a litter tray (mostly).

I have to be honest, I don't really see the big deal.
 
sprinkler?! maybe put it on a timer to come on for 15 minutes every hour?!

I used one type of cat deterant sprinkle stuff and it didnt work at ALL,but it could have been my cat that was very determined. (VERY naughty cat scared of being chased by 101 dogs on yard outside my door so decided to turn my *indoor* plant into a toilet! :eek::eek:) unfortunately cant remember which one it was :(

I dont think cats are that hard to retrain once they decide they dont like your garden anymore, could you borrow a crow scarer (possibly a quiter version of this?! lol!!) off a farmer?
problem is the things that would be most effective are probably most expensive! ie the motion activated things.
Im a cat lover (ok, ok, cat lady) but I have to say if I didnt have a cat and other peoples cats were going in my garden I wouldnt be amused either!!
 
I do understand that not all cats enjoy using a litter tray and most owners have minimal control over where they leave there gifts and cannot be considered resposible. All I would request from my local cat community is to ensure there cats are wormed ect. on a regular basis's to prevent any nasties.

I must add that considering the condition of at least one of these cats who pays my garden a visit (that I expect to be ferral) I worry to think what it could be carrying, that could possibly be passed across to my animals. Hence a further need for a deterent.

Also I dislike my garden smelling like a giant litter tray. :( :(

Any more ideas on how to deter them would be great... :)

Me neither.

We have two cats and one dog - they all seem to like to poo in our own garden! Have no idea if the cats poo in anyone else's garden, but would assume they probably do. We just poop scoop our garden. I have seen other cats in our garden over the years but doesn't bother me. We have a lot of cats in our road.
 
With a burgeoning rat population we may end up being very grateful to our moggie friends.
If you have borders you've planted , put a frame with some chicken wire on it to deter them (mind you, it won't stop the deer eating your tulips:()
I would hope that all responsible owners are worming their cats but I would always cover kids sandpits.
 
Hate it. This happened to me in both front and back gardens. Ended up taking up the gravel in the front and paving so that solved it there. The only thing that stopped it in the back was when i got my terrier who will chase any cat he sees in the garden, woe to them if they dont move quick enough (please note dog has never even come close and doesnt chase outside the boundaries of my property). They have soon got the message and no more poo even when we are out all day at work (dog comes to work with me). Was picking up poo every day which i object to when the animal is not my own.

Tried jayes fluid, those sonic cat deter thingys etc but nothing worked. Think you said you had a JR perhaps when his scent gets about a bit more following moving in they will stay clear.
 
I was told to put cut lemons out, it seems to work. My neighbours' cat kept coming into my garden at night and pooing in my mini herb garden :( Since using lemons, it seems to be staying away. Otherwise my JRTs would have been sleeping outside to keep it away! I can't understand why people don't shut their cats in at night.
 
I had the same problem of cats using the area in front of my garage doors as a toilet. I bought some of the 'Get Off' gel from ebay and they haven't been back since! It lasts up to 4 weeks as a deterant, it says on the instructions that the cats will learn not to frequent there as a toilet anymore. I put the gel sprinkles down over 3 weeks ago and theres still no poo! Yay! They have now moved on to in front of my neighbours garage doors!

I have also been told to soak old used teabags with neat jayes fluid and put the teabags all around the area to keep cat free. Not tried it so not sure if works.

this is not always the case, I had a chicken who survived a fox attack and 2 cat attacks... her name was Gloria .... (I will survive...)
 
Ihate to say it but I have a cat and definately no cat poo in my garden - he must go elsewhere as he never uses his litter tray.

He is an obnoxious beast and today my neighbouor told me that he sometimes chases her cats - through her house! However he does allow one of her cats to sit on the porch with him and will allow him into the house and to eat his food. Any other cat - No way!!

As fot the dog poo on the lawn - nest time you see the owner give her a box of plastic bags and ask her to pick it up and take it home with her. It's a big offence in NZ to leave dog poo on the streets or verges and there are dog poo bins dotted aroound favourite walk areas.
 
It always amazes me the way that cat owners feel it's acceptable to let their animals foul all over other people's property.

We had this problem in a previous house. Sadly because so many of the other properties had paved everywhere and we had a dug garden, it became the local cat latrine.

We tried all the OTC remedies and none of them did a thing. Our solution was to buy a couple of super squirters and put a mixture of cheap perfume and water in them. We took turns to watch the garden and managed to squirt the main culprits, they really hated the smell and never came back. Good luck.
 
Might sound straight to you but is a natural product which many people claim really keeps a cat out of the garden is lion or tiger dung some shops do it know but you may have to ask the local zoo if you have one nearby !!

What on earth do you propose?! Cats cant be walked on a lead like dogs, they go out and go wherever they like! I regularly find dog pee on my car wheels which is disgusting and dog owners who come to my yard and let their dogs run about peeing on my grass and wherever they feel like it - that is totally avoidable. A cat doing it is rather difficult to monitor! I let my cats out when I'm at home to keep an eye on them, they sometimes hop over the fence into next doors garden and there's no way I can stop them (trust me, I've tried to keep them only in our garden) - BUT mine are a bit 'special' and refuse to go to the toilet outside... My problem is neighbours cats coming into MY garden and beating up MY cats! Thats way worse!

Reort to whom and under what legislation?

To my knowledge, apart from taking private action as a nusiance or a civil claim for damages there is no legislation that could be used.
