My cat is 4 months old and I will be getting him fixed in a few months time, long before I let him run around the neighbourhood.

I know the couple (elderly) who live 3 doors up from me, they feed stray cats, and have a huge collection now as they keep breeding. The cats are very friendly and to me they look like they treat hers like a 2nd home as the long haired ones have a lovely silky coat and they are all really healthy looking.

Well i suggested to them that they get the cats fixed to stop the breeding, as the cats are getting beyond a joke. We moved in 4 years ago and she was feeding 3, now she admits she is feeding well over 20, if not more.

She said that she couldnt afford to have them all fixed, and I couldnt afford to get them all done for her. Is there nowhere that can help her?

Try PDSA they ususally nueter cats for elderly people if they have difficulty affording it. Try ringing up your local one and ask for some advice.

Cat protection league are also great here.In some areas they will do it for free if the situation is such as neutering/spaying costs cannot be met.Its worth your while contacting all the different agencies such as cat protection/RSPCA/PDSA and any other cat/rescue sanctuaries in your area to see if any of them would be able to help her.

The PDSA and the Cat Protection League (CPL) have joined forces recently to neuter cats for minimal cost. males are £5 females £9 i think. but since the cats are feral, you might be better asking the RSPCA (ooh...rude word there..) to round em up and do it, other than that the CPL will do it, but you will have to catch em yourself. then they may be rehomed. they will not let them free again.

they don't generally do it unless the cats health depends on it. However they have come to a useable situation as explained above

Piebaldhorse. Your Tom can be done from 4months onwards. Ileft mine til he was 6months as I thought that was the norm.... big mistake!!

If the cats don't actually belong to the eldery couple but are just strays most organisations will do it for free. There was a big problem near us and someone was going into the town and feeding them and then a mass 'hunt' was organised to collect them all and neuter them.

She claims that they are hers! Each one of them you can pet and handle, they will come up to you ok, so definitely not feral.

Its just that I noticed that 2 females are pregnant again!

The woman has said she has got a cat flap installed on her back door and the cats come and go as they please. Also she bought 2 huge sheds and lets the cats lie in there.

Hi,
Some vets help charities with neuturing cats.
Best to call the local Cats Protection or Blue Cross...they normally work alongside a nearby vets. RSPCA do it free if you are on a pention or on benefits. I worked for two vets who did this for charities. Might be worth contacting the local charities too.
Where abouts are you based..?

Turns out that my tom cat is a female!! When I took it on I was told it was male, but to be honest I didnt go look for myself lol.

Took him for his final injection last night and just by chance asked the vet what sex it was, he said female.

She is still getting fixed!!!!

LOL! That happened to a friend of mine - called her cat Thomas and eventually she had to change her name to Thomasina when she found out it was female
