Dont know any cat forums so thought Id try posting in here!

We got 2 kittens last year from a farm home. One is definately the runt of the litter (the girl) and is almost half the size of her brother, even now as full grown adults! Problem is she has always been a very picky eater - she used to eat a little bit of cat food but soon went off that. We've tried loads of different types of cat food, very occassionally she'll eat some but most of the time, she sniffs it then starts digging at the bowl (ie. trying to cover it up). She does however eat human stuff like beef, sliced turkey etc. so we've been feeding her mainly on this. Now her brother who never used to be picky at all, now only eats this as well!!

She will eat a few cat biscuits and likes some of those cat treats you can get but seems to go off a type she used to love very quickly.

We're just worried she's not getting all her vits & mins etc. that she needs. She isnt thin, just normal but it is so impractical having to buy them expensive beef etc. all the time! Why wont they just eat cat food?! Any ideas???

we have 4 and they are all picky so-and-so's. they go off one type of food very quickly so we can't go out and buy multi packs. we give them tinned food for breakfast and tea and always make sure there are crunchies down. After so many years of pickiness we have decided that they get what they are given and like it or starve. they are very unlikely to choose starving.

My cats love, love, love James Wellbeloved biccies.

The other thing that the boys like - and will only eat actually - is Felix as good as it looks pouches.

The other thing that I've found with a little stray that comes to visit is little but often. She is quite overfaced by a whole plate of food - so I just put a little down at a time, and if she wants more then I put more down.

Hills also do a very good tinned food for fussy eaters, or recuperating cats - expensive, but delicious.

I think though that if your little cat looks well - then carry on with what you're doing. My grans cats never had tinned food - always eating left overs from meals and all lived to very good ages, and always looked well.

My mog will only eat felix supermeat - half a pouch at a time - anymore she just turns her nose up at it. I just make sure she always has biscuits available (we have to rotate the brands as she also goes off them quickly).

She gets a weekend treat of tesco value frozen white fish fillet - she goes crazy for it, and it might be cheaper than the expensive meat for you to try.

When we got Salem, because he is a big cat, his breeder said to feed him frozen beef or fish. A lot of pet shops sell frozen pet meats in quite a few varieties. I think they are generally aimed at dogs, but Salem and our other cats all love it. I think each pack works out between 50p - £1 depending on variety and one pack a day is enough for 4 cats. My cats do also have biscuits as well though.

Try the Whiskas and Felix 'Oh So Meaty' and 'As Good As It Looks Stuff'. They look to have better quality meat in them.

Tinned pet food isnt very good quality meat, so if shes a bit weak Im not surprised she wants the better quality stuff! When my cat was very ill and weak I was advised by the vet to feed her proper cust of meat and not tinned stuff.

You could try tinned fish, tuna etc? Quite cheap in comparison to other meat.

My cat's 12 and is extremely picky and she's fat!!! wonder how... We are in city and she doesn't go out when i am not there or at nights, she doesn't go beyond the fence in my garden so doesn't steal food, she does hunts but doesn't eat them she leaves them on my cream carpet as pressie!!! She loves to play with paper ball (as exercise) but why is she fat!!!!

she only will eat about one tray of meat and small bowl of biccies a day Both below the recommended amount but there's food left over... i change her food every week so that she doesn't go off them... she got particular favourite.... ham, raw bacon and marmite!!!!!! Very strange cat but wouldn't swap her for the world...

I think your little cat will be ok. One of my cats is very tiny too! We got her when she was about 5 months old and she is now 15. Despite her diminutive size, she is fine.

Like yours, she is a fussy eater and so is my other cat. At the moment, they really like Felix's 'As Good As It Looks'....well as long as they have biscuits on the top!

Agree with Amymay that if your cat looks happy and well, then carry on with what you're doing!
