I have always wanted to do a proper cattle drive where you round up the cattle and sleep under to stars. Has anyone done one and what was your experice of it. Really hoping to do one in the next couple of years so starting to look into it a bit now.

Hey,
I have just seen this!

The place I used to work runs something a bit similar to this but it is a "horse drive." It is something they introduced since last time I was there so I can't give you a personal experience.

I know you are interested in herding cattle/sheep but it might be worth looking into if you didn't want to fly too far? It is in Italy and would probably work out cheaper too? Scrooge on here could tell you more, it might be worth dropping her a PM.

Search for La Fiaba, transumanza and it should come up?

I can personally vouch for the niceness of the area/horses you would be riding/people in charge too! (I think this stands for a lot when someone who had a horsey job can actually say nice things about their old bosses!!!)

When I left school I went to Western Australia for 14 months to work on a cattle station. To say it was a bit hard core would be an understatement! 9 months to muster the station, it was 1.5 million acres! We had bikes when I got there but very soon broke them all( they don't see fences when you are watching the cattle!) so back to horses, helicopters, bull catchers and dogs. probably the best thing I have ever done in my life!

I did this is Oz and it was amazing fun, I even got to brand some cattle and lance a boil on a goats neck!!! Would highly recommend trying it although having just looked through mum in laws riding holiday catalogue it ain't cheap...
