Went up to poo pick Gerry's field this afternoon to find a stranger interfering with one of our padlocks. A little ashamed to say that I didn't wrestle him to the ground or attack him with my poo shovel but decided that as a lone female the safest thing to do was say hello and take an interest in him.

He soon scapered but a little worried that our horses won't be there in the morning :( Who has the brass neck to break padlocks in broad daylight when there are people about.

Very temped to take OH's shotgun and camp in the field but hoping that he was just a wierdo and not a thief.

That's rather worrying! Have you called the Police (non emergency no)? They may patrol the area. Can you electrify the gate (to the mains if poss.) including the padlock?

Is it close by to any houses/dwellings?
You can get padlocks that are alarmed. If tampered with, they sound like a WWII bomber siren going off! I have them on my gates (which are about 100meters from any house or dwelling and they heard them the one time the ponies took too much of an interest in them and set them off:rolleyes:)

It wasn't my field but the one two down from mine, the field owner is taking it up with the police. I can't do anything to make my field more secure. Its electric fencing :(

Thanks joanne, will look into getting an alarmed padlock. Problem is that all our fencing is electric. If you really wanted to steal them you'd just cut the fence :(

Only 4 weeks ago a field near me had its gate padlocks cut through and they attempted to take the 4 horses , but then left them in the middle of the road , 1 of them had its leg badly injured during it !!! thank goodness someone called the police and the owners to get them off the road !!

terrible isnt it , nothing is safe
