I was just looking at the entries for Tattersalls ** and see that Matthew Wright is entered on this horse. Up to a fortnight ago it was ridden by Polly Jackson and was placed at Osberton I believe. It seems very hard luck to have lost the ride. The same owner has 2 other Caunton horses, am wondering if they have gone to Matthew as well.

The owner has just bought Noisette de Pres for Matthew and he won the * at Punchestown last weekend, Mtthew was quoted in the Irish Field saying that the owner had had horses with other riders in the past, but wanted to get back into it in a serious way.

I think I would hate to be an event rider (at least someone who relies on it for an income). Polly Jackson has done nothing wrong with that horse, but seems to have been taken away from her in the middle of the season at a moments notice.

Caunton stud is one of Pollys main sponsers and owners. Not good news if is the case. Poly has had alot of bad luck over the last 18mnths....

I was nosey enough to look on the BE search bit, and there were 3 caunton horses registered, all owned by the same guy. I am thinking that if one has gone to MW then they all have.
It seems such hard luck.
Different if she wasn't getting a tune out of the horse, but results would suggest that she was doing really well.

Know the owner well; spoke to them both at osberton, as far as that conversation went they were v.happy with the way things were going and wished to continue. The owner is very fond of Polly and Id serverly doubt they'd cut ties with her! And as you say, Polly was doing very well with the horse, the man is a good businessman & would not ruin a good combination. Thinking about it, Polly is entered for Prestwold on two or three of his horses. Im aware the owner is getting increasingly involved with the sport, but quite new to it & perhaps wants to work with several owners.

I don't know, but I thought you had to enter an event like that well in advance (Punchestown we're talking? He rode it there didn't he?) so he must have ridden the horse before or it been planned for him to be entered?

No he rode Noisette de Pres at Punchestown for the same owner. He bought it from Carol Gee complete with its 1* entry the Tuesday before Punchestown.

To be honest I have no idea why she has lost the ride on this particular horse, they were very happy with him at Osberton, & spoke to Vicky mid-week, I said Id seen the horse mentioned in H&H and she said how pleased they was, so I dont know what has happened. PJ is still the stable jockey for the stud, so I dont know what has changed?

Spoke to some of Matthews owners yesterday and it seems he's got the ride on most of the Caunton horses. Think it sounds like he's got the "better" ones but John is leaving the younger ones for Polly.

He has also just bought the one which won Punchestown for him too.

Such a pity as Polly has put a lot of work into those horses and taken them carefully through their careers to date. Does seem a bit tough on Polly that Matt gets the ride on them now as they are ready to move on through the grades!! Guess that is the joy of riding for other people!

Hope Polly's luck changes soon - she's had a rough year or so.

I think she has had a rough time, but i think that in many ways the owners want results and horses out doing and I suppose that if they're paying for livery while the rider is having a rough time it costs them the same as paying for livery while the horse is going out winning.....

But she wasn't having a rough time (not on that horse anyway). On its last outing she was 3rd in the ** at Osberton on it.
I owuld be the first one to say that if a horse doesn't click with a particular rider, then a decision has to be made as to whether a change is needed, but obviously wasn't the case in this instance.

According to Polly's website she had parted company with Caunton Stud due to differences in how quickly the horses should be produced.

Thanks for that - I had forgotten that she had a website.

Poor girl - she does the work and the new rider gets the rewards.
