We are having a big dispute, what is better for towing - automatic or manual?!! My OH says I must have an automatic to tow with but I am really not a big fan, someone else has said automatics are no good for towing as you have no control over the gears etc
What are your words of wisdom?

I think at the end of the day it is personal preference. I tow with a manual and friend has a automatic, and there is no difference in towing

Automatic much better not going to wear the clutch out. Also you gave the use of gears 1, 2, 3 rather than just drive mode should you need. Makes for a much smoother ride. Though I get lazy as nothing to do (changing gears!!)
Though it is personal preference. I haveboth auto & manual & they are both as easy as the other!

Automatics are generally smoother, but if you need to use gears, ie for engine breaking down hills, pulling up hill if you want to stay in a gear etc, i personally prefer manual, but as previously mentioned its personal preference!

An automatic is generally what is advised when towing. Less wear, tear and strain on the vehicle.

Many people think that you have no control over the gears in an automatic but that's rubbuish. Unfortunately many people haven't got a clue how to drive an autoimatic properly, they just put it in drive & forget it. You cvan have just as much control as a manual if driven right plus you don't have the wear & tear on the vehicle as much as a manual.
