CAUTION- CUTE FOAL

I agree with this entirely, once she's weaned she'll grow up much better if she can be in a home with other horses her age, they learn a lot from each other being in a gang of like minded babies for a good few years. I'm never a fan of one youngster on their own in a group of older horses.

She's so cute! I agree with this ^^^ - and by finding a home for her where she can have company her own age when she's old enough to leave mum, you're actually doing a good thing for her - she gets to grow up a well rounded individual who knows how to be part of a herd.

The right home will come along :)

Sorry my last reply was a bit arsey :o bad day ... But it's hard to get a Job I have been looking for months and stopped due to A-level stress. Whilst it would be nice to keep her we don't have the time for two especially a youngster who will need lots of attention . We will vet the home 100% and if possible look at loaning x

Boxers - no one is trying to make it harder for Abbi, it is just peoples opinions and just giving other suggestions, because she had such a big following i think all HH feel we all want what is best for her, so give us some slack.......

She could go on yearling grass livery for 3 years, which would give her company and only cost about £15 a week (i would get a job delivering newspapers to pay that), or cut out sweets, its amazing where one can find that money. It would be lovely for Abbi to have the chance to take her to some inhand yearling shows etc, and it would be very sad if something dreadful heappened to her, there is a post running at the moment about a horse sold on again.

The OP is clearly trying to be responsible and find the right home for the baby so why is she getting guilt trips like this? Telling her about how terrible it is for a horse to be sold on after? Of course it isn't. Sometimes on HHO people get so self-righteous, thinking only they are capable of looking after a horse in the "correct" way. What is so bad about selling on a horse? It happens every day and the vast majority find good, loving, long term homes. Yes, it would be lovely to keep the baby and take her to some shows but the OP also has a life to lead. If she's going to university then that, and the rest of the OP's life, comes first. It isn't just about finding yearling livery for her at £15pw. What about farrier costs, vaccinations, insurance, teeth? That's more than £15pw. I earn a good salary (higher than the national average) and even I struggled to keep 2 horses so you can't guilt trip a teenager into it. That's unfair.

OP, the baby is lovely but I agree you are doing the right thing in selling her.

She's gorgeous!

I think your doing the right thing looking for a new home for her. The only thing I would say is be VERY careful if you do decide to loan, and only if you know the person, but even then it can go wrong as I found out with smoke. You need to think if you could handle a ruined youngster in a few years time, on top of your girl and looking for a job. Not saying she would be ruined, but it is so easy to so the wrong thing with a baby!

Good luck whatever you decide

Dolly is looking amazing, cute and HUGE!! I think im in love with her :p She's so precious and i find the amount of character she has adorable!
Im always in awe of people who have the courage to sell a horse/pet, for i could never do it. Although hard, it could be in the best interest of Dolly to sell her.
All that said, i for one, would have her without a second thought :D Send her to me! :p

Hi TessyBear. I think you're being amazing at how you are handling all of this, and so practical. Both Mum and Baby are absolutely beautiful and I know it will be hard for you saying goodbye, especially after all that waiting, but you are absolutely 100% doing the right thing.

Two of my oldies both suffered at the hands of people who wouldn't let them go when they were younger and their daughter went to Uni - hence one 5 yr old shetland (they bought him just after he'd been weaned) who had no idea how to behave (barely headcollar broken) and one delinquent teenage cob who having had an idea once on how to behave had no inclination to remember!

I'm sorry but I physically cannot do both, I'm off to uni meaning no time and it's unfair to leave my parents with two. I will get jumped on for saying this I love Dolly but I don't want to keep her I never signed up for a foal. It's not realistic

You are being very, very sensible and practical . . . what a mature-thinking young lady you are.

She is a little monkey ! It will be difficult but i believe she will be better of in a home that is used to youngsters with some buddies her own age to learn the ways of the world... i will do what is right by her in a heart beat.

Ow gosh :( We have her headcollar broken , tying up and picking all 4 feet up but we cannot teach her what youngsters her age could, x

She's too cute, send her to me :D bring her to the lincs meet up next month and I will sneak her away in my pocket :)

Thank you :D if you have some blue doctors glove she will quite happily follow you home :p

Thank you :) I will always do what is best by Dolly 100%

What lovely pictures and you are being realistic. At end of day Tess has had foal(s)? before and she has been fine before & after as thats how you bought her! You never know, my sis bought a homebred horse and kept in contact with the owner. About 10 years later(last year) the horse was sold back to the owner at a nice low price(a classic home was more important than price). The lady use to come to clip the horse etc for my sis. They kept in contact, she use to visit etc so am sure you will do the same etc.

If you are going to uni the little'un can go to a home that will give it undivided care and attention etc in good hands. But whatever you decide it will be the best decision. Hey what an experience you have had with them both. Healthy foal and mother is doing a good job.
Next step for you all. But good luck. Yes it will be good if someone on H&H took on a new foalie...now where is Shysmum(I dont know you but just know perfect....!)! Ha. Good luck Tbear. What a year you have had!

Lovely pictures again and such a cute face!
I have given in and given my two youngsters option of using stables for next 24hrs given forecast for heavy rain. Tess is looking really good, well done for managing so well.

You really are being very sensible about this and I am sure you will find her a very special home. You should be very proud of yourself for handling the situation so well so far and for being mature enough to be realistic about Dolly's future. :)
