Some time ago I posted with regards to my mum's elderly horse who had been out on loan. The loan owner said he was going lame and didn't want him anymore. So we made the decision to have him PTS due to lameness and age and other issues which made any other solution extremely complicated. So my dad went on Tuesday to pick Loz up
Dad took him to kennels, unloaded him and couldn't get him to settle or stand still
. So while discussing the situation with the huntsman they were looking over him, checking his legs out and noticed his hooves for the first time proper. If Loz's condition was not as good as it is (he is a really good doer anyway) you'd call him a negligence case. His feet are hurrendous (sp!!) Going to post pics when uploaded them. Anyway seen as he was supposed to be lame they trotted him up, on gravel, and he is sound as a pound!!
So he's back home and we're getting the farrier to him and then dad's going to ride him and see if he stays sound and if so I might just have a horse to hunt this coming season
The warning of this tale is even if your horse goes to a "friend" on loan they may not be looked after. The loan owner of Loz was an family friend and has neglected his hooves and let his vaccinations lapse.
