cavalesse for sweet itch - does it work?

We haven't tried Cavalesse. However, it is virtually 100% vitamin B3. Brewers Yeast is also high in vitamin B3. Brewers Yeast has worked really well on our Cob but for best results it has to be fed prior to the midge season starting. The makers of Cavalesse also state that it needs to be fed early. The good thing about Brewers Yeast is that it is cheap enough to feed all year round. It is also high in protein and it is a very good natural calmer. I think that it should be fed to all horses whether they have Sweet Itch or not.
 
I use it. I tried everything for my horse and he always seemed to still rub his mane. I started with it last year in april and it seemed to work really well. He has had it this year since early march and isnt itching at all. I would really recommend it to anyones horse with sweetitch. He is rugged up still. My horse has had brewers yeast and it didnt make any difference to him so there must be something in Cavelesse that works! Hope that helps.
 
I am also using it. Started it last May and began it this year mid March, as it is best started before the midge season. It has certainly helped my boy. He doesn't wear his sweetitch hoody now and is much less itchy.

I have been using a mixture of yeast and garlic and feed all year and my boy certainly seems pretty symptom free. I wondered if Cavalesse would be more economical in the long run but it doesn't sound like it if you have to feed it for months.

garlic boosts the immune system.
SI is the result of an overactive immune system no not good for itchies.
 
I've tried loads of the stuff you feed as supplements but can't exactly give rave reports on any of them!

At the mo my man is on linseed & brewers yeast. Seems to be OK, plus I'm making sure he's well covered up.

Apparently Clevers (you know, the sticky stuff that grows in hedges) is supposed to be good - can't remember where but it was on this forum somewhere so a search should find it.

Ummmm, what is Cavalesse? Pardon my ignorence?
 
I haven't tried this as I've had such major success with Avon Skin So Soft! I just spray on mane and tail twice daily and not a rub in sight so far this year. Admittedly mine did not have extreme cases of sweet itch but if you haven't tried it already I recommend!!
