Hi all,

I think cavaletti would really benefit my mare. However we dont have this equipment at our yard. We do however, have lots of showjumps (plastic and wooden) this may be a silly question, but I will ask it anyway!......do i need to buy proper cavaletti or can i arrange very low jumps for the same effect?

thanks

I thought cavaletti sort of disappeared due to being deemed relatively unsafe? Hence people simply using jumps now :) Surely jumps would work just the same anyway?

As far as I know a cavaletti is just a framed jump that can be turned over to three different heights.
Therefore you could set up jumps at different heights. You can by 'cups' that the poles sit on the ground and then stack them one at a time to get higher. This may be lower than the first clip on a wing!
i would go with poles on buckets/tires etc. Its what we did as kids. It may not be politicaly correct but it works and its cheap! :-)

Someone on here once posted that they had bought some small plastic toddler's potties from a charity shop... because they make great 'pole pods' to put your poles on. :D

haha brill idea, think i may get strange looks on the yard tho!

ok, so how high should they be and how far apart should i put them? my horse is a long striding 16hh warmblood. I would like to get her more collected and get her to really lift her hocks and use her back end
