Please dont shoot me down but I am thinking of getting a cavilier x Bichon and I no majority of breeders are not good - but is it possible to get a responsible breeder with these? Please only helpful comments

Why not just get a bichon OR a cavalier? Am sure it would be fairly easy to find a good breeder of these breeds.

Brilliant little dogs, both. You don't need a cross breed. We have a bichon, and she is just wonderful.

Both breeds are lovely little dogs, why anyone would want to cross them for any reason other than money I dont know. If you buy one you are supporting an unethical breeder or at worst a puppy farmer, they are very canny when they sell them as very often will buy in and will try to pull the wool over your eyes. Unless it is an accidental mating I would stay away, very often these pups go for far more than the parents.
If you are determined to get one at least run the breeder past us so we can hopefully check and advise you.

Indeed both fab breeds as their own breed so just a question, why cross?

Many thanks for all the responses and I thought thats what you would all say I have a few friends with them and they are just lovely little dogs - but looks like I will go back to original plan and get a Bichon

Dont shoot me down but I have this cross he looks more like a bischon but is black and doesn't moult. He has the most amazing character. Ill post a pic later phone won't let me.

Holidays are coming im sure you bichon x is fab and bichons are a low/minimal shed breed (no dog is no shed)
Anyway a good point to make is the price the OP will pay out for a designer cross breed from someone out to make cash from a (name) she can get herself either of the breeds from a reputable breeder (thus encouraging repsonsible breeding) and she can get a pup from fully HEALTH TESTED parents, so it's about a few factors here.
I mean surely getting your hands on a black bichon is just wanting to be different/stand out from the crowd or is it more appealing as it stays cleaner? (genuine question), but what about the health of the dog?, is that not more important that the colour? and just because yours is low shed it does not mean the OP's will be. I have a cavi and im boarding a bichon, I really don't understand why you would want to cross these breeds when they are perfectly fine as they are.

The colour was because its easy to keep clean, I did check that my dog parents were health tested and he is 18 months old and touch wood is healthy and happy, (both my parents have Cav's - from what we thought was a responsible breeder mums had Epilepsy, spondiolysis and a heart mumor, dads has spondiolysis, dry eyes and a mild mumor).
I do think I have been very lucky and have the best of both breeds, and there seems to be a few locally to me in out local park and they all seem lovely dogs. Mine wasnt cheap however he cost me a little less than either a fully health tested Bichon or Cav.
I really wanted a rescue puppy but no-one would let me have one as I work.

He is young so don't discount any health issues and indeed it seems your parents went to bad breeders not responsible, I have a nearly 4yrs old cavalier and she has none of the issue you describe and neither do my mams 2, infact one of my mams cavs is 13yrs old (no health issues) nor have any we have rehomed or none my nanas bred and owned, all lived to an old age (so I guess the breeders your parents come across really where irrisponsible)
Im still not accepting the health testing of 2 seperate breeds to be honest, Imo you need the same breed to get the best of the breed and compatible matching im also not sure I belive anyone who fully health tests a breed would then do something as silly as to x them for the fun of it, generally people who health test are passionate about their breed and promoting it's health.
As cute as he is (your little one) he looks more like a shih tzu x or a lhasa x, I personally would still go for a well bred bichon if I was the OP and wanted a low shed breed or a well bred cavi if you want a placid family pet, i guess it's just not as exciting as a gimicy name.

I always call him a bichon x never his stupid x name, it doesn't really matter he has a home for life where he is loved and spoilt (he also loves agility). I wouldn't swap him for any other breed.

Under-brushed perhaps, but I have rarely met an under shot jaw on a bichon.
