I have now entered the world of hoof boots and was just hoping I could ask for a little fitting advice? I've bought some Cavallo Simple boots for our little laminitic oldie on vets/farriers advice, after much measuring went for a size 1 which arrived today... but I'm not sure just quite how snugly they should fit? It was a bit of a struggle because he enjoys pawing the air and and I was trying to keep the boots clean whilst he was waving his legs about with plastic bags tied around his feet (!) .. they seem to fit the hoof almost perfectly with a few mm's to spare, but is this too tight? He was trimmed last week and I'm tempted to return these and get a size up to allow for growth, but not sure whether the next one up would be too generous. Also - does adding the gel pads affect the sizing at all? Thank you x

We have two in cavallos and no, the gel pads don't make a difference to fit really, just add some comfort to the sole area. Did you use the cavallo measuring chart? We found that to be a little unreliable as size 6 was massive and ended up in a size 5 which are much better. If they are this tight after trimming then I would say they are going to be a very tight fit by the time you get to your next trim. Is there anyone that you could borrow a size 2 off to try?

We found it a little hit and miss to find the right size but once you get there it is worth it! Hope you get sorted soon x

My farrier measured my horses hooves, we compared to chart, chose what we thought was the right size. When they arrived they were huge! Ordered next size down and they are a perfect fit.
Unfortunately mare had to wear big size for a week until new pair arrived! The boots themselves have lasted very well. Worn every day since mid June, for at least twelve hours a day. The plastic things that secure the straps have broken but I just use plaiting bands instead now.
The velcro is no longer as sticky but they boots still stay on. I was going to order a new pair but hoping in the next few weeks my mare can go out barefoot, so will wait and see what farrier advises on next trim.
I found the cavello pads a bit useless tho (really thin) and ordered boa instead (just cut to size) - much thicker pads and really helped my mare.

If they fit now with a few mm to spare I would stick with them. I ordered mine to fit after a trim, as recommended and they were fairly snug. But they still went on fine even before a trim (8 weeks) and the next size up would have been far too big.

I'd say the ones you've got sound fine - Fit wise, if you have to push hard to get on they are too small, or if they swivel round at all they are too big. Pads aren't that good, but do give a slight lift if you need it, without altering actual size. The wraps are helpful for preventing rubbing. As for size of horse relative to size of boot - it doesn't work! My 13.2 lightweight connie and 15.2 QH take the same size (1) boot.
