Hi all
I am thinking of buying a pair of Cavallo Simple hoof boots in the hopes they fit one or two of my horses (two of my girls seem to be similar measurements).
Is this a good idea - and if so, where can I buy them in the UK?
Oh, and what 'accessories' do you recommend (pads, etc)?
Thanks!
S :D

Derby House have a 25% sale on til tomorrow, I am just about to buy a pair of Boas I think.
Dunno if they have the Cavallo's but worth checking!

I got mine off ebay in asize 5 - came with fee pats and wraps - they were massive though and had to return them - her feet measures 142cm length and width but the size 5's were huge! I had her shod again anyway so just returned them - they were very easy to put on though and looked great!

Hoof boots are a bit like saddles in that different types suit certain horses, even if they measure roughly the same. Have a look at other brands and models too to decide which would suit best.

Cavallo's are great boots but are the same width as length, so suit very round feet. The sport version are for slightly narrower feet. They're I bit clumpy but dead easy to put on.

They don't need anything else but if you're worried about rubbing then get some gaiters. However the cavallo gaiters are crap so you'd be far better getting Boa gaiters, which will fit and boot type. Pads depend on what you need the boots for. They're great for sore, sensitive feet but most horses won't need them.

I have a pair for my horse. You need to make sure you measure the horse's feet after a trim as otherwise they will come up far too big. Mine were off Ebay too and came with pads and wraps, though he doesn't need the pads in the week or so before a trim as obviously his feet have grown and they make the fit too snug. They're pretty easy to put on compared to other brands and clean up quite well - I use saddle soap and leather conditioner on mine as they are leather.

Other brands I've tried/seen used are Old Mac G2s (fiddly to put on, bulky, but easy to clean) and the Easycare ones (easy to put on, easy to clean, pulled off in mud/heavy going so no good for me). My physio rates Renegades, but they are very expensive and she also said they aren't suitable for horses whose feet are in the process of being rehabbed as the design is more for an optimum hoof shape.
