I’ve been reading some good things about cbd oil.
Wondering what you use it for, where you get it from and what dose is given please?

I’m wondering if it might be worth a try for zig and his weird winter behaviour thing.
He’s actually being really pretty good. Excellent in company but he’s still going it alone without too many issues on a quiet still day. I’m pretty aware that it may not last, although this year I’m able to keep him in more work as I can lead him out of my new horse on days I have no one to ride with.
Is it worth a go?
3 years in I’m 99.9% sure this is behavioural and not pain or anything else related.

I used it on my old mare for arthritis. God knows if it did f( all, but you know what horse owners are like. We'll try anything!

I got it from a human CBD supplier.

Later, when my youngster went through a phase of being a prat for the yard staff (but not me), I got a horsey CBD product called Hempine. Her behaviour improved, but we also went back to some Groundwork 101 days. Too many variables!

i use it when my nerves get the better of me
 
I've used CBD oil for myself for mobility /muscle issues, it is not the cure all that they might have you believe, but i also think if it does work for you then it probably does really work.
A quick look at Hempine's website shows their powder products are 50% coconut oil.
I just can't imagine how if a 20ml bottle of a pure quality CBD is £30+ that can translate cost effectively to a 500kg horse

I did wonder if it would cost an absolute fortune.

I've been using Biomed full spectrum for Bandit more for pain management than anything. He's been to a hydro session today and the therapist said that she's noticed a gradual improvement on the treadmill. Today it was so noticeable how much more consistent his gait is. His physio has been saying the same. I've also noticed this year he's been able to settle easier during the fireworks so I think it's having a positive effect.
 
I briefly looked into it but decided it would cost a fortune to feed at a suitable dose for a horse. Looking at research papers studies have been done at 0.5, 1 and 3 mg/kg body weight so for a 500kg horse that's a 250mg, 500mg and 1500mg dose. The hempine super strength drops is practically £65 for a 30ml bottle containing 1,500mg so at most 6 days worth at the lowest dose at just over £10 a day. Another example, Hemx is £170 for 5000mg, so 20 days of 250mg at £8.50 a day.
 
I take it to counteract loss of nerves due to menopause, it works a treat . I am like pre menopause and my usual brave self . Not sure this a miracle cure for everything though , didn’t help with my knee injury pain .

My Pssm1 mare does really well on it.

I also use it for the microcob on farrier day. I didn't tell my farrier and he said she was a lot better having her hinds done - asked me if I'd sedated her.

I forgot last time he was here and she was back to snatching her legs back

I've mentioned before that Amber seems quite similar to yours. Currently, Equine America Supe So-Kalm powder appears to be working well, but I know we haven't hit the cold days yet.
But yesterday, she came in from the field fairly hyper but did a solo hack nicely at all speeds, just in a snaffle with zero silliness.
 
My cat has nerve damage in her tail which causes her some seriously stressed cleaning, Hempine has been amazing. She has been through a larger/loading dose, about 3/4 what they recommend as we couldn't get her to eat more, split morning and night. About 4 or 5 months down the line she's now on 1/2 dose and only in the evening as it was hard to get her to eat it in her breakfast.

I barely see the behaviour now, at her worst she was grooming neurotically about 30 times a day.

I use it myself for anxiety or if my mind is racing at bedtime. Efficacy depends on source. As an unregulated industry some are better than others. Trip for example is pretty weak and I have to take twice the dose. Diablo was the best I tried, but I can only afford it when it's on offer and it would bankrupt me feeding it to a horse!

I wonder if it’s gut changes when lots of dead leaves / fungi / increase in possible toxins autumn to winter making him less resilient and more anxious solo? (I’ve concluded horses out of character extreme hacking behaviour seem to tie back to either a hind gut inflammation flare or an inflammatory dietary insult of some kind.)
