Hey,

So I posted ages ago asking about my boys conformation as I am a bit useless and find it really interesting. The general consensus was it was not a good enough photo to tell and he needed to be standing better. I know have a decent picture (I think) so was wondering if I could get some opinions now!

Also is weight has been a struggle all winter but dr green is finally starting to work and I think he looks better..opinions? He could still do with a bit more muscle I think but quite happy with his weight.

Oh, very smart. Nice length of rein.

Lacking a decent top line at the moment. That will come with correct work and feeding. I'd like to see a tad more weight on.

Thank you, yes, work is in progress on his weight and topline but we are getting there slowly - on the right track I think.

As a comparison this was him in October when I got him:

Has taken a while to find a feed that suits him, think we have cracked it and the weight is slowly but surely creeping on :)

He has just turned 7. He was in race training up until last spring then chucked in a field for summer and did nothing. I got him in October and started working him in December. He is just about ready to go to his first event, the jumping has come on a lot slower than dressage which he seems to have a natural flair for :) He's been so great, first horse I have had from scratch and none of the problems I had anticipated have materialised, he is just so willing and honest. So excited about him! Thanks for all your nice comments :)

I know, he is quite decieving! He is very short in the back which made finding a saddle challenging - so I think that makes him look smaller than he is! His field mate is a massive ginger warmblood, he looks dinky next to her.

Thank you, I have always thought he was lovely, but its nice to hear that it isn't blind love! :p
 
I like him a lot too, and echoing AM massive improvement. I personally wouldn't want to see more 'weight' but would just continue with good work to build his topline and general muscle. If you haven't already done so, make sure he is on a good vit and mineral supplement and a protein based feed this will help with optimum muscle building :). I like to feed fibre, with linseed meal and a supplement. :)
 
Just a quick postie echo AM too massive improvement and I do think a bit more weight. Just watch giving loads of protein as this can sometimes cause problems especially if u have had issues already with feed I know I had a fair few issues with ex racers and protein so just a heads up. Not knocking your advice QB he may be fine with it but just speaking through own experience. He is gorgeous though well done

No completely understand I didn't notice he had already had issues with feed :). I suppose what I mean is that with more topline and muscle he will look to be carrying more weight... As it is in the photo he doesn't look ribby, its more the above bit that needs more development IMO, but he is miles better in comparison to the older pic.

He is currently on baileys no.4 conditioning cubes, outshine and alfa a oil. It seems to have made a difference and he is going very well on it. He has also just moved onto summer grazing with much better grass than his old field so I am hoping that this will make the biggest difference as the winter field was very sparse and we were still relying mostly on haylage.
