Ok, for my A level photography we have the general subject of 'Me, Myself and I'. From this I have gone for childhood memories. For my first film I took pictures of a beach I used to go to (can't show these as done on film, in dark room)
I felt that I had to bring horses in somewhere as they have been a huge part of my life so far(no link to beach whatsoever but needed to be done

. I know they are damn near impossible to photograph and I don't want normal 'pretty' images, I need artistic ones.
So what do you think of these? Say whatever you like, be mean if you have to

This has been cropped from a larger image so was slightly blurry, have done my best to fix in photoshop.

Sorry their huge, photobucket won't let me resize!

they are lovely love the 3rd one best

maybe on the first one crop it slightly so there is less 'sky' space showing? this seems to distract from the image of the main thing, the horse!
Are you allowed to play with the colours on your images, say to like on the 2nd one make the background black and white nearly to allow the horse to really stand out, because his colouring would look awesome against a dark background! This picture is a really nice action shot but again the background is slightly to 'bright' if you get what i mean?
Just trying to help, hope you dont mind :S x

I think you should maybe try to 'stage' your photos a little more - choose your background carefully so that there are no distracting poles/shabby fences/droppings to detract from the main subject. I agree the nostril one is the best

Thanks guys!
Simplyhunting, I want to change the backgroun colour to black and white but have pernickity photography teacher and we can't do anything til she teaches us how (even if we know)!! lol

Think I'll have a go anyway!

Your first photo is shot into the sun hence the rays being caught in the pic. Try to shoot with your back to the sun, as then the photo will be properly exposed. Shooting into the sun is a big no no.

2nd pic is quite noisy and I'm not sure about the crop and angle.

3rd pic is too tightly cropped IMO, you need to come away from the nose and maybe bring the rule of thirds into play.

Mavis_Cluttergusset I really tried with the backgrounds but our yard is an old pigfarm and has alot of shabby fences, eventually I took pony out to where I hack him but it was still hard to get good photos as I couldn't exactly let him loose! Oh the havoc he would of caused

I think the backgorunds better here...

I actually really like the first photo - I think the light is great - you don't want boring portrait like photography when you are trying to project a feeling about something like your childhood. The black and white with the patterns of light reminds me of the age where photography was more complicated than it is now. It feels old - I know you are not old but it gives me a feel like it is the past. I like the fact that it is not perfect (as in how we are taught to take a holiday snap) as it seems real.

Love the nose too but for me although the middle photo is good it does not make me feel anything particular. good luck with your A levels

Sorry but 1st pic looks like ned has a pole growing out of his back, 2nd pic the balance is wrong so it doesn't so much look edgy and modern, more that the camera slipped. 3rd one too close, back up a little.
