The next picture shows what Roo used to be like constantly when I first started riding her, but she doesn't do it much anymore, just the once in this session

I then put the fence up two holes but only got that on video, which hopefully my friend will send me soon

you look very good together and you have a nice position.

my only small critiscism would be in the canter you look like youre leaning forwards and could do with sitting on your bum a little more, and that your lower leg is ever so slightly too far back at times.

but generally you look like a very nice litte partnership

Thanks

I'm surprised you havent criticised my jumping, when I bought Roo I was determined I would never jump again, because I always hated it, now I love it, she's so much fun

Thanks for cc, will work on it

You look great together! I'd also say your lower leg is slightly too far back. I'd also try and give with your hands a little more when jumping. But you really do look great so keep up the good work.

lol i dont know enough about jumping to comment tbh, im not a jumper myself more of a dressage girl but after ive got Ted fit im planning on starting him jumping again (hasnt jumped for a long time i dont think and ive only had him a month) so going to start off training him up for it a little when hes fit enough and hopefully he might rekindle my love for it, but like i said i love my dressage atm and think thats what Ted is destined for tbh, he just floats across the ground

Yup, looking good

. Lower leg, unless you're asking for some yield. Bit stiff through the arms/hands held high, except the one where you're tipped sligtly forward at the canter.

A nice partnership

I love dressage, not had a go myself yet, but its what I'd like to be good at.

Hope Ted is as good as Roo at getting you to enjoy the jumping

He makes a lovely shape over them and from the video ive seen of him as a 7year old could do really well, but like i said with legs as long as his and the progress hes made already im going to stick to what we're both good at until hes more than ready.

oo i just want to ride now (i havent ridden since wednesday cos delicate little flower that he is managed to throw a shoe, and he only got his 4th wheel back today, before then he was a wonky donkney lol) but yes i hope he can give me a bit of fun jumping too but if im honest i aspire more to Laura Bechtolschiemer (sp?) and the like rather than the Whitakers of the world lol

yup, your lower leg position looks much better and more secure in the jumping pics than the flat ones.

on the flat you might perhaps be gripping a bit with your knee, allowing your heel to come up and back and also why you perhaps look a little perched in the canter. So you might need to just relax a bit more.

Having the leg a bit too far back can also happen if you are kicking too much and kicking up and back though obv can't tel this from pics.

Jumping, very good overall, I wouldn't worry about too much hand release at this height but you may need to more as you go higher. In which case you just need to be careful that you are not getting your hands tucked in to your stomach too much, what can help is if you carry your hands sligthly higher than you would normally you then tend to place them slightly higher up the neck (this helps me otherwise I do a strange pull towards my belly then release motion)

I definitely don't use my leg too much, she's a very forward going horse, so I only use a tiny squeeze to go up a gait, I probably do tense up, I had a lesson with my friend the other day and he kept telling me to relax my thigh.
Thanks for the advice, I will try the hands up a bit and see if that helps

Just found another picture. Just to show an improvement. I bought Roo in August last year, refused to jump for a while, so this must have been about October last year.

Think theres a definite improvement

I'm quite happy without stirrups on the flat, infact I actually think I'm better when I don't have them. But haven't done it for a while, tried it today and it felt different because I haven't done it recently lol.
Cant do it over a fence yet though, maybe some day soon but not yet

Wow, she looks really gd, only in schooling and before jumps looks like she needs a little more impulsion. She works really nicely though, what is her breeding?
Lydia

You both look really good together

The only thing I would say (other then lower leg position as others have said) is in some of the pics you look a little perched rather then riding her with your seat. You may find that bringing your bottom more underneath you will relax both you and her and allow you to drive her forward with your seat, rather then letting her run into the fences lus acheiving a more upward impulsion.

Edited to say: riding her with your seat more will make her lighter in the hand, so easier on your muscles

Re the jumping (please note I am no expert on this) I think if you folded more from your waist rather then coming forward out of the saddle so far you would be more balanced (at this height fence) from the 'take off' pic you seam to be leaning on her neck a little. It just seams to me that if something were to go wrong you would be straight out the front door at the moment.

You really do look lovely together though and a great improvement from the first jumping pic

Ester says what I was going to, but....
I'll second the noseband. It's more or less correct for a simple cavasson, but with the flash it needs to sit under her cheek bones, so put up at least 3holes.

i would say in regards to every thing look up!!! you are looking down alot of the time and when jumping this will put your weight on to your horses forehand, who will then find it harder to pick up over the fence, encouraging stops etc etc
but lovely looking overall picture well done!!

look up, you seem to be looking at your horse's head most of the time instead of where you are going.

Haands, nice on the flat but you are fixing them against her neck and using them for balance over jumps. This is hard on her mouth and will cause real problems when you go higher. You need to stop 'holding on' in that way, if you feel insecure grab a neckstrap with one hand or a handful of mane higher up. Practise coming up into jump position and releasing hands forwards on the flat until it becomes 2nd nature.
