Hi all. This is my loan mare, she'll be 16 on the 23rd, she is a 16hh ISH mare, mum was an ISH, dad was a connie. I'd just like some CC on her condition, muscle and conformation?
We've had a bit of a hard and expensive winter with her, her weight did drop rapidly at one point and I would probably faint if I added up all the feed and supplements bills  Anyway. I know she needs more muscle, anyone have any good exercises to improve the bits she needs improving?
Also, any conformation CC would be great, as I'm trying to learn how to work it out :D
Thank you!

I really like her. Pic is a bit small for confo critique, but overall picture is of a nice looking horse.

Weight is good, but could do with much more topline to go compliment that lovely head of hers. And the only way that will come is through correct feeding and work.

As for exercises, it would be a general allround fittening plan. So plenty of hacking out, utilising any hills you have. Interspersed with one or two days a week school work.

She's lovely.

Thank you :) Atm our work plan is: 5-6days per week. 1 day jumping, 1 day aprox 2hour hack, the rest is 45min schooling and 20min hill work straight after schooling. As she gets fitter, I will be upping her hill work to 30 then 40min, but for the next few weeks it will be staying at 20min. We're quite lucky to have a few really good hills and we do try and make use of those :)
Just a quick question, what's best for hill work, walk, trot, canter or transitions on the hill? I've mostly been doing trot and transitions from walk to trot, halt to trot etc.

You'll get her more productivity fitter and musceled by more hacking and less school work. If she's fit enough trot steadily up every hill, always working into the contact but not on the bit. Obviously if you have hills you can canter up go for it. But again steady does it. Great aerobic workout.
