Hello

Just wondering if you could give me CC on my mare. She has been on a diet as I let her get quite chubby (she is my first horse so was a bit clueless  ) and I am hoping you will be able to see improvement? And if theres any other CC please feel free to add. Shes 19 and still ridden most days etc.

Thank you

Hummm.....has she had a foal? This may be a possibility in my opinion.

If so, she may 'appear' to carry additional weight in her belly, but what you're actually seeing is slack abdominal muscles [and a redistribution of fat], which no amount of weight loss will correct, in my experience.

Personally, in the last photo - I think she's looking pretty good for an 18 year old but you can see she's lacking in topline and has a 'dropped' belly where muscles are slack.

Research tells us that most animals are much healthier underweight than overweight - is she prone to laminitis? Otherwise, I think she looks pretty good - in last photo.

hello!

thanks for reply

yes Tonks she had foal year before last before I bought her so does have a bit of a foal belly!

shes at 438 on weigh tape and has lost 35-40, has gone from haylage to soaked hay and one scope of Pure Working once a day for supplements etc. and work load has upped now I have instructor which keeps her active and interested. We will keep working on her topline to see if we can improve her foal belly and if poss lose a bit more before the summer grass thanks xx
