Hi,

The horse I own has qualified for two star, rider and horse previously did Blair 1* clear and coped with the hills, looking to enter him for his first 2star looking at Hartpury & Blair, Blair close but seems to have very low % xc clears at this level? Also considering Osberton but its quite late and thought it could be a plan b if other went wrong! Anyone done either got some insight? Thanks

I went and watched Blair last year and having done Weston Park and Burgie 2 stars myself, I thought it was a fair one in comparison. I think Blair always has quite a high attrition rate because people visiting from down south underestimate how fit the horse has to be.

I have some video footage that I took of the XC course. If you would find it useful, I can upload it onto my you tube page.

I also think that the less blood the horse has obviously the harder it is going to find the hill. It is a good start that the horse coped with doing the one star last year. How many time faults did your horse get?

Hi thanks for reply, he got 13 time but was as a 6 year old and green so wasn't pushed and now 8yo bigger and stronger and more experienced. That's interesting what you say about the hills as we do lot of hill courses so maybe would work! Something to think about, haven't been to Hartpury in years but walked Blair most years but seeing it with new eyes this year!

As long as the horse is fit Blair is a fair course, it possibly favours a bold horse, I think the extra distance on the 2* catches some who have coped ok with the 1*. Blair has a lot more atmosphere than some events which some horses cope with better than others however if your horse has already been there it shouldn't be a problem.

And some of them overestimate it and get the horse unrideably fit :o :(
