CCTV

Has anyone experience of installing CCTV in their yard? Strange things happening so we all are wanting to club together to install in the tack room entrance and maybe stables, but we are being told it is really problematic and we would need a licence. Not sure who the licence is from, they didn't say!! The CCTV we would want would only look down on the door entrance and within the stables, so not where the general public would be going. I've seen so many yards saying they now have it. It would be no different to having a Ring camera at the door. Has anyone had experience of this?

Who is saying that there would have to be a licence? I have three cameras around our land, the police came out a couple of times (awkward neighbours?) and as long as they are only showing your own land there is no problem.

I believe it's only illegal if you audio record private conversations.

I've got a camera on my yard, which everyone knows about. If anyone comes on the yard who shouldn't be there, and gets caught on camera - tough!
I have notices, and don't use the audio function

eta - my camera is for monitoring the horses welfare, rather than security.

We have 8 cameras on our yard, no license required here, in fact it considerably reduces our insurance premium.
