My 17.1 IDxTB has started to suffers from cellulitis in all fours and under her stomach when being kept in, at the yard im at now during the winter months they have to be kept in. Does anyone have any idea of anything I can do to help her? Ive tried bandaging her legs when shes in this reduced the swelling slightly but not to what I had hoped.
Does anyone have any idea on what else I could do?

Thank you

I know cellulitis (both as a nurse treating humans and with my own horse suffering from it) as an acute skin infection that needs IV/IM antibiotic treatment.....

Is this really what your horse suffers from regularly?

I'm sorry but I would move yards. I dont like no turnout anyway, but if being kept in 24/7 is causing your horse health problems I wouldn't stay. You might find a way to improve things but do you want to be fighting something like this all winter.

Cellulitis or Lymphangitis needs antibiotic treatment as it is caused by an infection, most often in only one leg. Have had experience of horses hindleg swelling to twice or three times its normal size - looks dreadful and is very painful.

Thinking your horse is suffering from filled legs from standing on them too long without movement rather than an infection? Have heard this referred to as cellulitis before as well.

I would increase her exercise, cut out any concentrate feed, put some magnetic boots on (these are good from personal experience) -

Then start looking for a new yard where more turnout is possible. :)

I would give her something that will help her lymphatic system, to help drain. My gelding has this and I give him Cleavers and Marigold from Hilton herbs.

It has worked very well with him. You do need to find somewhere that has more turn out, horses are not meant to spend long times in the stable.

I don't know how much you pay for Hilton Herbs, but I use Cotswold Health Products. Don't know if it's cheaper for you?

(P.S. You spell it Clivers on there;) )
