one of my mares has managed to get this fom the smallest wound ever and the vet is coming out every night to inject her with antibiotics into the vein, and he has told me to just wash the wound each day, but i feel like i should be doing more.
Anyone whos horse has had this in the past can you tell me if you done anything else to help reduce the swelling.

Antiinflammatory drugs for a start, eg. bute . My horse has a tendancy to lymphangitis and I've treated it successfully 3 times with homeopathy - apis mel 30c 3 times per day - brilliant!

My horse has lymphangitus (sp?) just had, he got it in all four legs from something he's ate. Im was injecting him wth anitibiotics, and he's still on bute. Being walked round, and also being bandaged at night. Within two days his legs are back to normal.

Hi, I had a tb that had cellulitis in a foreleg, it swelled up so much that I could not believe how far the skin had stretched. He was treated with anti-inflammatries and anti-biotics in sachet form given in feed twice a day, and we were cold hosing the leg aswell as it was very hot. He responded really well to this and the swelling had almost gone after a couple of days. Hope your horsey is back to normal soon.
Lucy.

Thanks for all your replies, thankfully after a few days if the vet injecting her has gone down considerably. Luckily she is a very hardy TB and never even went lame even thought her leg swelled up so much i thought it was gonna go pop.
I have turned her out for a few hours each day and the exercise seems to be doing the leg great, will keep her on bute for a few more days.
Fat piggy please could you tell me what the homeopathy stuff is

My horse had cellutitis this year, one morning his leg was massive and he was under the weather so vet came and gave him antibiotic injection and then course of powered antibotics (which was a pain because he won't take them in his food!) after about 3 days I gently hacked him out again and the exercise helped his leg go down, I gently built his work up again and it took a while for the swelling to go completely but he was fine so I just treated him as normal - the movement helps his circulation and thus helps with the swelling. There was a small cut on his leg but I was so careful in cleaning it out and spraying the wound - the vet said I was just unlucky!

Oh no - just saw your request - sorry!!! Its Apis Mel. I use the 30c preparation. Easily bought from Boots or a health food shop.
