So my (young) staffie boy has just finished his course of four centrophone injections to see if this helps his elbow displaysia. On my vet's advice he has also been switched onto the JD Hill vet joint food and has been on that for a week (though I know it can take 3 + weeks for that to kick in). Blaze is still very lame BUT is now up for walks (he was refusing to leave the house with my lovely dog walker and would only get in the car to go to the yard) Anyone had these injections? advice on how long the impact takes to kick in? I had my first walk today when he didn't try to drag me back to the car after 5 minutes.

Not at all keen on the next option which is keyhole surgery, looks like both elbows would need to be done and not sure (yet) of the recovery time/crate time. None of which I want to put my young and active dog through unless it is his only option.

Never heard of centrophone, you don't mean cartrophen do you? My GSD has the latter injections for a spinal problem and certainly has helped her. I am a bit of a cynic about foods for joint problems etc, but can't do any harm I suppose, except to your bank balance knowing the cost of Hills. If Blaze is still very lame it might be worth asking about additional pain relief , I can understand your reluctance to put him through surgery but it sounds as if he can't have an active life at the moment so perhaps you should discuss it further with your vet.

Sorry - Catrophone...his tolerance level seems to have increased but is not "sound". I was wondering how long I should give the injections a chance to work before I go back to the view of surgery...
