Cereal free feed?

My mare has come up with protein lumps and got even more as I had to increase quantities. First thought its the sugarbeet but almost sure its the D&H Pasture Cubes and I am now looking for a cereal free solution.

Are there alternatives to the Allen & Page feed? What about Dengie?

Have just taken this from D&H website re pasture nuts:

Packed with vitamins & chelated minerals
Contains added mint & garlic
The cube equivalent of Pasture Mix
Pasture Cubes are oat and barley free

The protein is 10%, are you feeding haylage which may well be a little rich? Beastie obviously ain't havin oats or barley so they can be ruled out.
My thoughts would be go back to hay and start introducing one thing at a time to see where the problem lies.

No, not feeding haylage. Just hay and Fibergy, Speedibeet and Pink Powder..

Wheatfeed, Maize meal, Citrus sinensis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (CBS 493.94. 4.3 x107cfu/g), Minerals, Whey powder, Vitamins, MSM, White mineral oil, Fructooligosaccharide, Glutamine peptide, l-Glutamine, Colour, Flavour (vanilla).
Nutritional analysis: Protein 12.5%
Fat 4.0%
Ash 23.5%
Crude Fibre 10.2%

Maybe take her off this and start again?

The main ingredient that you want from the PP is brewer's yeast. This is good for digestion and also skin.

You can buy it from eBay from Natural Horse Supplies or Progressive Earth at a fraction of the cost of the NAF stuff.

Most of NAF stuff is just packaging and added crap!

Is is that bad?:confused: So many people told me how great it was. What about all the other vitamins?

I compared it to Equilibra and it seemed much better value for money, especially as Equilibra is amost 50% black oats.
 
What about Simple Systems feeds? They're based on Alfalfa, sugar beet & linseed.

I feed mine a cereal free diet of Alpha beet & alpha a oil. Planning to add some linseed soon.
 
It's not bad but it's expensive for what it is. To clarify what the ingredients are...

Wheatfeed (a type of bran usually £6 for 15kg)
Maize meal (I have no idea why as it's crap as a feed)
Citrus sinensis (Latin for orange)
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewer's yeast)
Minerals (nice - but what minerals)
Whey powder (a milk product - why?)
Vitamins
MSM (anti-inflammatory, feed 10g a day - you can buy 900g for £20)
White mineral oil (a by product of petrolium production used as a lubricant and food additive)
Fructooligosaccharide (artificial sweetener)
Glutamine peptide (non essential amino acid helpful in digestion. Found in may foods, inc sugar beet and oats)
l-Glutamine (see above)
Colour (why?)
Flavour (vanilla) (why?)

So of all of those ingredients, I would say only the Brewer's yeast, Msm, vits and mins and glutamine are the ones of any use.

Simple system is good but you can easily make it yourself for much less cost.
 
Just quick update, I stopped PP and bumps are gone! :-)

Never thought it would be the powder but glad the mystery has been solved. Do I still have to feed it to her again? :-(
