I went to Birmingham last night (am exhausted today as didn't get home 'til 12.30am and had to get up at 5am for work!) to see Cesar Milan.
It was a very interesting Seminar. He talked passionately about the psychology of dogs and their owners and emphasised his points about Calm-passive/ Calm submissive. Calm-passive was illustrated by how a paramedic approaches a patient.
Energy levels of dogs and how they are not always breed specific was another good point made and examples shown.
The Excercise/Discipline/affection cycle was another point. He said that so often dogs are not given enough exercise so are therefore hyper in the home.
Discpline was emphasised as giving simple boundaries and being consistent.
Obviously there was loads more but I would have a massive post if I were to go over all of it.
having gone to see him with an open mind, having some doubts, I have to admit about some of the methods which have been supposedly used, however I came away with a good "feel" about his approach. He came over to me as being so passionate about dogs and training them to be settled, happy household friends and I truly had the impression that the more severe methods are only used when absolutely necessary.
