I think this was posted recently but I can't find it so apologies!

Toff has HiFi Lite as a partial hay replacer, this has been working well, she is spot on weight wise (never looked better/slimmer) but she seems to have got a bit fed up with it! She used to scoff it down first but now she munches her haynet then kicks her chaff around before eating it. I thought I would get another low calorie chaff once this one has finished and then go back to the Hifi after that to see if it helps.
She has Spillers Happy Hoof for her breakie/tea so didn't want to use this for her hay replacer as well.
I was thinking about Spillers Happy Dieter, any opinions? Or maybe HiFi original as it's winter but I wasn't sure of the calorie contents as the website doesn't list this.
Any ideas? Are any of the Mollichaffs suitable?
Thanks

Here's the thread you were looking for!

In one of my posts on there there is a list of several types of chaff and their calorie content. Personally, I would use Happy Hoof as the hay replacer as well - most ponies find it very palatable, and there is absolutely no reason why you can feed it as a hay replacer as well as a feed.

Is there a particular reason you give her a hay replacer as well as hay? Because obviously it would be far cheaper to give her just hay!

Brillian thank you!
Only reason was in case she got sick of it but if I only use it for a short while then she shouldn't. She does love it so may well use that.
She has chaff as half her hay ration as lower in calories and takes her longer to eat

I found it was the easiest way to slim her down, just hay didn't seem to have the same effect unless I cut it down a lot but then she was getting hungry and moody!

I doubt she'll get sick of it - they really do seem to love it. It became the sole food for my old pony who had teeth problems and couldn't eat hay at all. She never bored of it at all. However, she wouldn't touch HiFi Lite!

Have you thought about using oat strawmixed with hay or soaking hay to aid weight removal. Or perhaps try some Simple system chaffs. Lucy stalks is similar in calorie prifile as straw chaff and theur ruff stuff is fairly low too, they have no oil or mollasses added.

Simple Systems stuff is fab. They do some other low value foods which you soak as well, to give your horse something to graze on through the night and keep them hydrated.

i've just moved from Happy Hoof (Spillers) to Healthy Hoof (Dengie) as the vit/min is sprayed on (rather than as a pellet) therefore every scoop has the same vit/min concentration (with happy hoof all the pellets seem to collect at the bottom). It is just as pallatible too (in fact - very tasty!).
Happy hoof - digestible energy - 8 MJ/kg
Cool fibre - 8
Happy dieter - 7

Healthy hoof - 8.5
Hi-Fi - 8
Hi-Fi lite - 8
Hi-Fi good doer - 7.5

All simple systems fibre chops have a DE over 8.5.

Thanks all. Went to feed merchants yesterday, they didn't actually have much in but after comparing bags/ingrdients etc went for D&H Fibergy and she loves it!! It's got herbs in it

Will go for Dengie Good do-er if/when she goes off this one!
