Chaff?...

A lot of the chaffs have chopped straw which makes them lower in energy; If you're wanting something for them to chew then the new Hi Fi Molasses free is very low in starch and I think only 2% sugar.
Top Chop Lite is another, Horsehage High Fibre another, and Dengie's Hi Fi Lite or Good Doer ( although this has 8% sugar! but energy level very low )

A & P Fast Fibre is very low in sugar/ starch and energy and soaks to a mush ( I feed both my natives on this and they love it )

A bit of a minefield out there tbh :D

The reason behind my asking is that he seems to have too much energy!! He is currently out 24/7 unless wet. He has hay if in for the night. He has a small feed once a day of a couple of handfuls of dengie hi-fi original and a handful of nuts!! Just wondered if changing the hi fi might help? I suppose I could cut out the chaff altogether?

If the grazing is good, I don't see a need to feed tbh; mine are on restricted grazing and only get one handful of FF with their supplements, and only fed in the morning.

Most people feed either to mix in supplements or because everyone else does it!

You could cut out the nuts and when you run out of the current chaff swap it for FF, its quite reasonable in price and one bag lasts me about two months :)

I'm with angieandben if he's getting enough from grazing then maybe he doesn't need feed. But Dengie good doer is good as a tummy filler coz it's got alot of straw in it and not much else only thing is it's higher in sugar. Or swap the hifi for hifi lite. Or you could try a lamintic feed like happy hoof they have higher levels of vits so you feed less and there a comlete feed you wouldn't need to add mix or nuts

Honestly stick with the hi-fi and try get some high fibre horse cubes. This is what I will be feeding this kids pony when we get him :D
