brought the chaff cutter out of retirement today. Chopped 2 leaves of barley straw and 2 leaves of meadow hay/ mix well. big double handful per horse. small amount of very dilute molasses added to each and a handful of oats. horses LOVE it. traditional feed. should never have gone out of fashion. [ feed manufacturers don't make money from it though.........]
I did this after getting fed up of finding stones in the hi-fi. At lkeast I know exactly what is in my own home made chaff and its very cheap too. Win -win situation.
 
I use apiece of wood to push the hay/straw in to the rollers. Blades are on the wheel rim thingy so not neat any thing they can cut other than the hay. Catch the chop in a big plastic trug.
