Does anyone have any ideas apart from Ebay where i could get second hand chain harrows or cheap new ones?

i've just got my quad bike working and bought a menage leveler, but its quite compacted so thought a chain horrow might loosen it up a bit.

We bought some from York Machinery Sales for £500. There were another 21 sets there and praces ranged from between £400 and £800.

put wanted ad in your local agricultural store - got a 12ft drag harrow for £50 from a Mole Valley ad!

Our yard bought one a few months ago and I have to say the school has never looked better. Its harrowed twice a week. The old harrow was a spiked harrow and it went in too deep and kept bringing up the white cloth material which was added a year or two back. My partner works at a riding club and he does surfaces day in day out and he suggested the chain harrow as it works better as it only goes into the surface so deep, and doesn't bring up the stuff at the bottom like the previous one. I'd say the quality of the surface for rideability has gone from 2 out of 10 to 9 and at times 10 out of 10.

He also said to harrow before rolling as if you roll over holes where hooves have been you create lots of 'false steps' - in other words holes covered in loose surface.
