Morning All

I have been and purchased https://www.onlineforequine.co.uk/c...SESZB5GIYTMNRS&adGroupId=73580681441&device=c

I have a show on the bank holiday Monday. I have been told to wash the feathers as best I can do then let nearly dry/ be damp and brush in with a dandy brush (dipping it in the calk) into the feathers. it will make a paste consistency and then wrap overnight. The morning of the show unwrap touch up and brush off any excess. Has anyone got any experience, have I got this right. It's the 1st time I will be doing it and I don't want a failure on my hands on the day of a show!

Thanks in advance!!

Yep, sounds about right. Make sure you take a sponge or cloth to the show ground to wipe hooves before you go into the show ring, as the dry chalk will make them dusty!

Put vaseline on the hooves before you do it to stop chalk from sticking! Don't make it too pasty otherwise it'll go clumpy, if the feather is already damp then i would just brush the chalk on dry and it'll stick to the wet leg :)

I use exactly what you've linked to. Your plan is good but I wouldn't use a dandy brush to apply it as you'll just end up with a yukky brush, just sprinkle and use your hands. Then in the morning before the show give the feathers a good brush through to remove any excess and as others have said have damp cloth to wipe any off the hooves. I find it very satisfying as it really works. Have fun.

for my non feathered grey, i make it up so its a bit like a paint consistency and then slap it on with a paint brush, ideally using an ice cream tub with a lid so I use any left overs for the morning after. Then I wrap her up in pads and fleecy bandages, gently brush out and repeat for any stains!

I mix it into a paste with some water, apply with a damp sponge, bandage and go! Then at the show, bandages off and brush out any excess. Hey presto, gleaming legs!

Thanks for all the advice. This is the demon I'm dealing with.
I have been told sheep face whitener is better. May give it a test tomorrow to be sure it goes to plan.

I never use chalk, I use talc on wet legs and leave overnight. always have amazingly white legs

I have always been told talc as a youngster showing... but then recently I have been advised that the talc sends the legs gray and that I shouldn't use it im all a loss ha
