Hilton Herbs have recommended I feed my horse Chamomile to help with his digestive track, after a attack of Flatulent colic.

Should I give him the tea?!? How much would be enough?

Thank you

Don't know about the Chamomile, but I've had a lot of success with Arnica tincture 100x. It relieves stress caused by Flatulent colic. If your horse's is inflamed by for example sand in the gut, then Psyllium husk is very good. PM if you want a supplier. Obviously, the vet should be called if any problems.

My horse Sunny had an attack of gassy colic 2 years ago. Vets were needed and administered Buscopan which did the trick in under 10 minutes. It was my own stupid fault for turning him out onto lush grazing directly after moving from bare winter nibbles. I was advised to give him 7 days on Coligone and he was fine. Now, every time he is likely to experience changes in his life, eg changing fields, going to the vet, he is given Coligone for 3 days. Coligone is the closest thing to magic fairy dust that there is!

Do you know why your horse had the colic attack? I think understanding that so that you can prevent it in the future is just as important. Hope he's well again now - bet it gave you a scare coz it sure did me when Sunny was ill!!!

We *think* it was grass, but TBH we are not really sure, as he didn't have anymore grass than normal.

He ended up in vet hospital for 2 days as he was *so* bloated, and his small intestine had moved around, they didn't think he was going to make it :( thankfully he pulled through.

I have looked at coligone, but its really really expensive, and yes, i know you cant put a price on horses health, but £50 a month I think is a little much for my small bank balance.

I feed chamomile to my gassy horse, he has never had colic but obviously suffers discomfort so I try to help him out!

I buy the dried flowers and make a tea which I use to damp his evening feed. I don't use a specific measure, just a handful in about half a litre of boiling water. I leave this to brew while I groom him off and by the time I mix his feed it makes his feed warm not too hot.

Have you googled Happy Tummy? I feed this as well and have found it very good. It's basically charcoal and really helps deflate a bloated belly!

You can also try fennel seeds - this is what they used to feed babies with colic after all!
