There was a previous thread about MIPS helmets, I have wanted one for years and when Charles Owen brought one out it did not seem to fit me very well plus it just seemed cheap somehow (in make not price!).

I just tried (and bought) the new Champion MIPS helmet, it is a world different. It feels better made and the bit that slides is not as slippery all of the time. Plus the lining seems better attached.

Maybe it is just that it suits my head shape better, but genuinely it seems a better product. The only drawback is that I have had to buy a size bigger than I usually do. Usually a size 7, had to buy a 7 1/8.

Looking forward to safer hacking, just in case

In case anyone was waiting for a better MIPS product, and no I am not associated with Champion!

I could not get the charles owen mips to fit either. In the end i bought the vented champion skull as it fitted better. I couldnt get hold of the mips champion at the time. Glad to see a recomendation was it expensive?

Agree with you, it feels much more quality. I was disappointed with the Charles Owen.
Edit to add, the Champion Revolve Vent-air MIPS is approx. £200 so around double the price of the Charles Owen MIPS. There is also a cheaper Junior X-Air version I am tempted to order online as my local saddlery only stock the vent-air

Mine was a fraction under £150, delivered after the one in the local saddlers did not fit. I found a few at £150 online, from saddlers.

It was worth the extra £40 as fits nicely and is a whole different level of finish.

I have a Charles Owen MIPS and I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by it. Champion don’t normally fit me - would you say the champion mips fits differently to other Champions?

That’s interesting- I’m wondering about getting a MIPS helmet - I have a gatehouse hs1 which was fitted by a fitter but compresses my forehead and gives me a headache

Looking at the hat it seems quite oval in shape. I have not had a Champion before. The Charles Owen was too tight on my forehead.

I am surprised at how the sizes all differ. I am a comfortable size 2 in a Gatehouse but a size 2 in a 4 star swamps me, especially at the sides (can actually fit a finger up the sides!). The MIPS Champion fits great all round, but at a 7 1/8 which is supposedly bigger than a size 2. The local shop has a size 2 in stock, but it would not even go on! As the sizes are supposed to be measured in cm, there should not be that much difference in size, even allowing for a different shell shape.

I nearly did not try it as I am not a fan of helmets with a vent piece attached, as opposed to holes drilled in the shell. I would have thought a large section being attached to vent would compromise the integrity more than a few small holes. However, it is up to standard in several standards (not snell though) and is very comfortable, so I hope that, with the MIPS, it will be safer.

As it was not in stock locally I got mine online. Happily, it fits like a glove.

I’ve gone from an HSI to the Champion MIPS. Spent a long time trying both on and decided that the Champion fitted me better.
