Champions Full Gallop Series 2

I have set it to record on Sky later. Will watch it tomorrow night with OH.
I just hope it’s not incessant banging on about the David Power jockeys cup, but seeing the ad gives me little hope.
I’m racing at Newton Abbot tomorrow so it will no doubt be the talk of the town.

Quite good so far. Schooling at Paul Nicholls but yes likewise hope they don’t concentrate too much on that Have fun at Newton Abbot

Excited to see this series back again. Is it just me or are they casting Harry Cobden as a pantomime villain, focussing on his expression when Freddie won the Grade 1? I seem to remember they alluded to this in the last series! All good fun I suppose.

Be interesting if they focus on the Skelton/Mullins race to the finish.

I have watched the first episode. Loved it. I think as I remember the races they talk about it’s great to watch them with the jockeys saying what they thought and felt.
And, tbh, much as I 🥰 Harry, he takes losing very badly. I’m not sure he’d have got his weight low enough for Il Ridoto anyway, although I can’t remember what he carried.

on episode 2. It’s on Constitution Hill, I love Nicky Henderson and Nico De Boinville, 😍
I started watching episode 2 last night, will carry on when I get home this evening rather than stay up. It will be interesting to hear their perspective on how it panned out, it's so sad to watch though, what a beautiful kind boy he looks. Let's hope he has a much better season.

I've just binge watched the first season and now on episode 4 of season 2.

I didn't think I was really in to racing but maybe I could be?! I love the horses (obvs.) and have been really fascinated by the training/riding but less so about the actual races. It's interesting hearing the jockeys talk and to understand a bit more about the actual races.

I enjoyed that Bryony Frost brought Frodon home. Made me a bit emotional!

She loves him, if you follow her on Insta she has posted a few videos of her out hacking him on the moors close by her family's yard, Dad alongside on Black Corton who she also rehomed. Both horses living the life all retirees deserve.

I’m only watching what’s been on tv but so far… sadly yes.

Im up to episode 4, and thats slightly better as its focusing on Cheltenham, but until then they frequently bang on about it (as they then speak to the leading jockeys inside their rather nice houses...)

Saying its like the f1 drivers title, no imo its not as they already have the champion jockey award for the season.

It would be interesting to see more behind the scenes such as the care of the horses/the vets on race day etc, but I guess they need to try and make it "exciting". I watch drive to survive as im an f1 fan, and again thats become more "Hollywood" as the seasons have gone on

I presume the poxy Cup isnt taking place this year, watched a couple of Saturday's so far and not heard it mentioned, when it was every other minute last year...

It would have made more sense to have it in place for conditionals only, would potentially encourage yards to use them

Has anyone watched the second series all the way through?

Either I zoned it out completely or did they not say who won the £500k jockey cup thingy?! I remember the champion trainer bit but not the jockey one.

Think they briefly showed the presentation of the jockey cup.

Focussing on the Jockey's cup didn't really bother me that much, it was their baby after all so they're always going to give it airtime, I did find it really interesting that the jockey (and trainer) that won (I won't spoil it) were the only ones to contact ITV racing to get their schedule - inspired!

I too wish they'd do an episode or two on the staff/horses/what goes into training them, the amount of affection staff have for the horses and day to day pitfalls as well as ROR. I loved the first series, this one not so much because it was the same guff we saw last time.

Is it all pretty repetative? We sat to watch one on the weekend, Mr P said it was the one shown that Friday so we hadn't seen it. I sweat the who Constitution Hill stuff was repeated almost exactly, I was sure we had already seen that episode until the Jeremy Scott bit came on.

I've enjoyed the series, I do follow NH when I can. However, the one thing that has really struck me is the lack of concern from jockeys and trainers about the fallen horses. Mullins was furious when Stateman came down, it cost him a lot of money, but there was no follow up comment about the health of the horse from him. Henderson's horse came down, obvious annoyance from owner and trainer, Henderson did say 'is he ok' and his wife said the horse was up. When the fall was discussed with Henderson at home all he said was disappointment/years worth of work etc, not a mention about being relieved the horse came home.

Jockeys likewise, saddles thrown in annoyance and the sulking faces, not a mention of the horse.

The horses are the stars of the sport and I think this series has perhaps missed a trick with its filming and content in the portrayal of the most important subject.

Absolutely hit the nail on the head Alice. It was their opportunity to show how important horse welfare is to everyone involved in the sport, the love of the horse is the reason they are in it, but they have dropped the ball on this big time which is sad.

Yes, it is a shame it came across like that because they will care about the horses and more needs to be shown about that and the relationship between the horses and people. I liked this second series more than the first. It is rather like the other series such as drive to survive that they have to try to have heroes and villains.

Stateman won't feature again, he has done a leg and out for season at least according to statement.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the lack of empathy for the horses.

You can’t film what isn’t there I suppose… it would have been a different story to have interviewed and shadowed some of the grooms. Would have showed the more… sentimental side I reckon, and been more interesting and informative for the non horsey viewer.

I do enjoy the series, and I really like Nicky Henderson. Admittedly I’ve weeped a few times!

Yes I think Nicky comes across as one who really cares about the horses rather than just their winnings xx
