I organise the shows at my yard (also for external competitors) and this year we have run 6 shows as 'qualifiers' for a Championship in September. Its the first year I've organised it and we've doubled the entries from previous years so want to top it off with a fab end of year show!!

We have 8 jumping classes (four ponies, four horses) and 7 showing classes. I'm now looking for ideas for prizes for these classes and have hopefully secured some sponsorship from a local tack shop, but they have asked what we'd like. (Think it's highly unlikely that they'll sponsor the lot tho!!

My suggested budget is as follows:
1st Prize up to £25
2nd Prize £12
3rd Prize £5

They'll also get sashes, rosettes and trophy for the Champion in a full blown presentation ceremony (just like the Olympics

So, anyone got any ideas for horsey related prizes?

Summer sheet makes a nice prize ,but make sure your tack shop sponsor will swap it for one to fit the winner if not the right size.
Bandages, nice saddle cloths and grooming products are also popular.
Not keen on feed - we've won this a couple of times and if your horse has a particular diet already it's not much use. Bags of horse treats go down well tho - maybe as 'specials' or for your reserve champ.
Make sure you give your sponsor lots of plugs if there is a commentary, space for a banner or two, opportunity for a trade stand or to display their business cards. At the very least invite them to the show and give them a cup of tea!

"Maybe a nice show or cooler rug"

I always think a rug is a nice prize for the champion. I agree aswell that feeds aren't a good idea because it doesn't suit every horse .. So i would reccomend for reserve champion something like feed vouchers from the local supplier or personalised embroidery vouchers for rugs, saddleclothes, jackets etc. Hope this helps!
